Quick Question...on Anchor Text...?

I have a keyword phrase I would specifically like to get indexed for on one of my sites.

As I go in and link to the site for different pages, can my anchor text be the same for every page I link to? Or should I vary my anchor text for each page...

or doesnt it matter....

If you're physically typing this in you can't overdo it unless you have super powers.

If you're automating or outsourcing, then some variation is best.

  • I always use the same anchor text for each page an outbound link is pointing to.

If I do a lot of links does using the exact same anchor text for each page hurt me at google?
Am I better off being more specific on the page. For example if my niche is buying Insurance and that is my anchor text "buy insurance" am I better off using "health insurance" as anchor for another page, "life insurance" etc or really try to get ahead for the one key phrase?

You will get a pile of different answers and they all will work. I always like to have 3 to 5 anchor text keywords and alternate between them. Having said that I do have a colleague that will spend as much time as is necessary for a number 1 position, anchoring only 1 phrase, and that definitely works for him. It's pretty much up to you.

The point is if you're doing it manually, you will never build up enough to spark the google monster. It would take thousands of identical anchor text links every day before the powers that be could devalue your site.

If your objective is to show up on page one for that keyword, you're better to pick a page and focus on that. Please note the following...
    • If your homepage is already on page one for a specific keyword, try another page.
    • Use a keyword density checker to find the best page on your site to link to, or rework a page so the keyword makes sense for that page. I suggest the keyword & cloud tool in SEO Quake.
    • Use internal contextual links to reinforce the keyword you want search engines to associate with the page.

So Peter are you saying you alternate between 3-5 keywords for the main page or 1 for the main page and others for the individual pages.

And Megaresp are you saying to focus on one keyword that makes sense per page, so each page would have their own keyword?

    Sorry I am still unclear..thanks!

One strategy that has given me some great SERP is:

I will use 1 anchored keyword for my home pages, 1 different anchored keyword for an inner page, and so on. At the beginning of every month I rinse and repeat. Once my SERP for the current keywords get the top spots, I will find new long tail contextual keywords, rinse and repeat.

As I am doing this (targeting low competition/long tail keywords) I never stop linking the *parent niche to my main page, everywhere I can, all the time, non stop.

      *
If micro niche keyword = "Big Blue Fish Shaped Bongs",
      parent niche keyword = "Bongs".

      Hope that makes sense.

My personal rule is this; Every time I set out to backlink my long tail keywords, I force myself to place an anchor link to the "parent" niche, pointed only at my main page. By doing this consistently I have reached top spots within some extremely heavy competition, while slaying the smaller micro-niches.

Note: I'm reading this post back and now I'm not sure if it makes sense or if it's a big confusing mess, but hey, it's bloody late here in Singapore

It can be both.Let's say you have two keywords for one site.Make sure you use both in different pages or different sites. What important is your consistency of building links.

If you are intending to create same anchor text from different sources, then it will be okay as long as the article topic is not the same.

This means that you can have 20 blogs in different sources and linking with the same anchor text. This will help in terms of SEO. As for the article itself, try not to use too many of the anchor text wordings as it may turn out to be spamming.
