Unique content is any kind of online publication - article on a blog, video, white paper that contains fresh and valuable information in regard to the topic. Such content will provide users with great user experience as well and make them come back to your page more often. For search engines, this kind of content is a signal about relevancy to the subject determined query and therefore higher rankings.

Oh, gee, I dunno. Don't you know?

      Here's a tip. Ask yourself:

      "Did I copy any content?"

If the answer is yes, you have copied content.

If the answer is no, you don't have copied content.

      Simple!

      Who cares?

Every site from yahoo to google uses copied content.

They don't give a flying leap.

I don't think you people cross the street by yourselves.

If you don't know whether or not you have copied content,
well,..."Just think. Last week I couldn't even spell webmaster,
      and now I is one!"

When writing articles, ensure that the articles provide value to your readers. If you are outsourcing your articles, you should put them into Copyscape to ensure that they are unique and not plagiarized. You should try writing article titles such as

I can't believe the amount of garbage in this thread.

I could quote the lot of you and take all day.

Unique has nothing to do with search engines, especially
      google.

Unique has zip to do with visitors, the quality of those
visitors, or any other such rot.

Unique content is created by wannabes who think they know something.
Jack of all trades, master of none.

Anyone who even mentions unique content as way to drive visitors
and search engine (google) traffic, is just an seo wannabe. They
have zero knowledge as to how the internet and google work.

These people cannot explain how amazon, wikipedia, etc. can
rank #1. I mean come on. Google must hate them, right? They
      don't have unique content!

I dare any wannabe to search for (in quotes):
"These Wrangler Men's Regular Fit Jeans are great for every man’s wardrobe."

Then come back and report how many different sites are in the top 10-20.

If you took an article from another website and pasted into urs, it's not unique.
If you took an article from another website and changed placements of paragraphs it is still not unique.
If you took an article from another website and re-wrote it and them post it on ur website then it is unique.
If you came up with an article and wrote it (assay kind of thing) then it is also unique.

Well, not really. Many (myself included) consider simply rewriting someone else's content as a form of plagiarism. Legally, it could potentially fall under the "derivative works" issue under copyright law. So, I wouldn't tell people this is a way to create "unique content".

At the very least it's lazy and unethical.

When I first joined the WF years ago I still remember a very prominent WF member (at that time) telling people to literally rewrite content by going through an article and changing it slightly sentence by sentence to create a "new" article - and then sell it. Still makes me shake my head.

Hello re-writing is not plagiarism, it's absurd to even think that. In our time and age everything has been already written How do you think you got ur unique content? You consumed (read, watched, experienced) someone else content then addicted/re-wrote/re-made with ur opinions and thoughts. If you think that your content is unique and has not been published one way or another then you need to wake up and choose between the blue and the red jellybean.

She said 'creating a derivative work' and yes, that's a thing and it is copyright infringement.

You are saying two different things within your post. Rewriting something is to take someone else's work and simply reword it, without adding anything to it. Researching a topic or reading an article, taking those concepts and adding in your own thoughts/opinions/ideas is a different kettle of fish altogether.

Copyright law only works in the United States. China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Vietnam,
Venezuela, Iran, Syria, well, just about 99% of the world....could care less.

Do some research. There are many rules and guidelines that give

Copyright law is not only in the US. Laws vary from country to country, but there are quite a few that have similar laws to the US.

I know there are ways to reuse within the law, but one of those legal uses is NOT to simply reword someone else's work. In the US, that is. No matter where you are, it's unethical and lazy.

Virtually 99% of the world ignores US copyright law.

India, China, Russia, and Pakistan alone make up almost 50%.

So unique content is like a unicorn. However if your content has popular or "unique" keywords you might get some organic traffic from it without doing anything special. I think you can get traffic from any kind of content no matter how bad or un-unique. Creating good content is one thing, getting traffic to that content is another thing.

I don't always agree with Paul, but he's spot on about this thread. Of course OP question was silly, but these comments are downright depressing.

Do you guys really think that Google algo is so naive that it things unique word order means that the article is unique, or that unique word order translates to good rankings? Of course it doesn't.

It's very unlikely that any of us come up with the next trending topic or viral thing, and even if that was the case it's likely that some aggregator or content curator is going to publish their version of the article and collect most of the traffic. Why? Well, they've got a huge audience that we don't. People don't give a toss wether the article is original, unique, or something like that.

Unique content is basically a content that isn’t strung up together and matches a high-match percentage on Google.

That’s the most superficial definition of a unique content as far as the internet is concerned.

    However, that definition can change.

In the real world and in the academic world, unique content goes much deeper.

You’re dealing with unique content when you’re dealing with fairly unique ideas or unique combinations of ideas.

Considering how fast Google is evolving, it’s not outside of the realm of possibility that unique content might start becoming defined this way.

Of course this definition brings a lot of problems to the table.

After all, we all know that there is really no such thing as an original idea.

There are many different forms ideas would take and there are many shades and shapes ideas can take.

But, in terms of radically different ideas, those are few and far between.

Still, it’s always a bad idea to bet against Google.

Google is definitely evolving faster than your average virus.

A good content is that which contain only relevant information about any topic that you want to know about. if you want your content to get maximum traffic on web than your content must be unique. what i mean to say is your content must not be copied from any other site other wise it will be marked as copied by the content or article detector.
