Links: To Pay or Not To Pay

I have been paying for someone on odesk to build back links and help with SEO for the last 8 weeks. There was no difference in my site ranking until recently, but about the same time the site started to move up in ranking I started building relevant backlinks and applying what I have learned from this forum.

I've been actively trying to add value and help users, but would like to know if I should keep paying for something that I am not sure about to work on the site. Below is a list of areas that they have been targeted, will this help SEO?

(I can send over a copy of the report if anyone would like to review it.)

Targeted links:
Social Bookmarking
Photo Sharing
Classified Ads
Business Listings
Video Sharing
Reddit
Micro Blogging
Social Media Accounts

I hope you are not paying much. Those are about the lowest quality of links you can build.

No, that list of fluff will not rank pages. Those are mostly nofollow links, on the slim chance they're followed they'll most likely be new webpages with no link profiles pointing directly at the new backlink pages.

Stop paying the guy on Odesk.

Totally agree with you, low rated and non follow, he should definitely stop paying for this.

If you have been reading this forum, then you should know that those are
not even real links. Micro blogging, the lone maybe exception.

If they are selling you those as links, look out when they tell you
they have a bridge in New York to sell.

Those are traditional SEO methods. Those techniques positively worked before 4 - 5 years ago.But now link building is more hard and that is a challenge.Don't pay for low quality links.

If you have enough knowledge in SEO or still learning from it you can optimize the website by yourself and stop paying on that person to SEO your website because tons of low quality links are too risky for the site. There are well experienced members here that is willing to help you in SEO.
