Automatic Duplicate Content Problem

Hi,

Just checked my site at google by the usage of site:domain.com and realized almost all of my content is automatically duplicated in the search engine.


For example, a certain post appears under different tags and categories.

Also, some pages appear with https://domain.com while other appear only with domain.com (without http or www)

Does anyone know what causes this duplicate problem and how to solve it?

    It seems to me like canonical problem where same content is accessible from two different urls and google has indexed both of them. If this is the case either you can use 301 redirect or canonical tag on pages. For more information on this problem, refer to this url : https://support.google.com/webmaster...r/139066?hl=en

      I've just no-indexed my tags and categories by the usage of the yoast plugin.


      Do you know how long it will take before this is updated in the search engine (results)?

    a little while for them to be deindexed, over a month sometimes. Duplicate tags and categories produce a huge amount of duplicate posts. Also mate disable the author and archive indexes

      I guess It will take some time before my rankings are going to improve again

      Do you maybe know of any methods or things I can do to speed up this process?

    1. Delete or noindex all Tag pages because it's obviously duplicate internal pages.
      • If you decide to keep the Tag pages then nofollow any/all internal links pointing to Tag pages.
      • You could also use canonical tags on Tag pages pointing back to the original content pages/URLs.
    2. Create unique category pages with links pointing to the internal pages instead of the same content showing up on the category pages.
      • There's no reason to not index a category page, that's the mother of all pages for each subject (research SEO silos).

    That will fix the duplicate pages in the SERPs.

        That depends on how fast you can get Google to reindex the unwanted pages/URLs that are showing up in Google SERPs.

        After you make site edits try submitting an xml sitemap to Webmaster Tools (WMT) or Fetch as Google inside WMT on an xml sitemap URL that includes all the pages/URLs involved on your site.

        Basically, do whatever you can to get Googlebot to reindex the pages on your site which in turn will speed up the SERP update.
