Targeting a competitor rather than keywords
- SEO |
I have many competitors in my niche that are ranking for low difficulty keywords, but their link profiles are horrible. I'm talking 100+ spammy directory sites, MAYBE 2 or 3 relevant blogs, and RARELY they might have one authority site linking to them.
Now in my case, I am building a diverse link profile doing all of this:
- forum posts
- guest blogging
- Submitting to authoritatve news sites
- Web 2.0 (tumblr)
- Targetting broken links on industry trade group/organization sites
- Some nofollow links for a natural link profile
Is it a smart idea to pick just one of these competitors, and focus completely on building content around the keywords they are ranking for?
One thing that has me discouraged/ I'm scared of is the fact that my competitors have hundreds of links. I'm worried the sheer volume will outweigh my smaller amount.
Any ideas? Thoughts?
