    Https is just a certificate, you are not actually migrating site. It helps for ranking yes, and it doesnt take too long, i set it up in two hours first time

    HTTPS is lightweight ranking signal. It is just providing secure level encrytion between your website server and browser. It's not migration.

    Cost will depends on which SSL certificate you are buying. Approximately it will be available from 4000 INR -10000 INR.

    Doesn't rank a page.

    Most sites will never need a secured page for transaction or privacy. Most sites use a 3rd party checkout (Paypal, etc...).

      It's not the financial transaction alone that needs to be protected. A good argument can be made that any site with a login could benefit from SSL or even should have SSL.

      If a hacker can sniff out one of your users and get their login credentials...they might have also just gained access to their bank account that uses the same credentials. And even if the user is responsible and uses different passwords everywhere or a password manager, maybe the hacker didn't get access elsewhere....but they still have access on your site, and do you really want hackers going around logging into user accounts on your website? The probability of it happening is low. And the risk if it does happen may be low as well, but...the time and cost required to install SSL is low as well, so there's not a compelling reason to go non-SSL.

    If you have your website hosted with WPEngine, you can set it up with Https:// for free. They also have a paid https:// version, but IMO you don't need it.

    As far as using https:// or not. IMO it is better to start using it.

    Google has stated that if all other factors are equal, HTTPS can act as a tiebreaker in the search results.

      ...which literally means nothing considering it's impossible for two webpages from two different domains to have identical SEO.

      I rate https as an SEO factor right up there with meta keywords.

      The majority of sites on the web will never need https because they'll never process secure data, they'll use 3rd party sites like Paypal or embedded email processing like Aweber.

      Beginning in January 2017 (Chrome 56), well mark HTTP pages that collect passwords or credit cards as non-secure, as part of a long-term plan to mark all HTTP sites as non-secure.
      Really, who cares, what's Chrome going to do have a big red flashing overlay on the browser (WARNING!). No, they'll have a tiny little icon in the search bar (ouch).

      I would be surprised If Google labels a site on Google SERPs as not secure because that's probably going to end up as a lawsuit. Technically no site is secure, with or without https. Any site can be hacked, therefore, not secure.

      Keep in mind Google products are running https. How's that working out? Good luck to Google explaining in court how https is secure.

      ...and lets not forget the guy that hacked Google SERPs to show a bogus popup javascript box directly on Google SERPs when his SERP breadcrumb link was clicked. Google never recovered from that hack till this very day, they caved like a Bing developer and removed hyperlinks from SERP breadcrumbs.

    You can sign up with cloudflare.com to get free SSL. You don't need to migrate your website. However, you need to update your domain nameserver and configure your server DNS (if you use cPanel, this process can be done through Advance DNS Zone Editor). You just need to follow the instructions given by Cloudflare.

    In case you migrate - just make sure to set proper redirection from http to https, update your sitemap respectively and re-submit it, and I`d also revise all absolute links on the website to prevent any issues.

    However, even if it is a new ranking signal, it is really lightweight one. Obviously, any pages that collect credit cards or sensitive login data would better be https. Still I don`t think it`s necessary to move to https for no real reason.

    I didn't say SSL magically made a site impenetrable.

    I said that it adds security at very little cost.

    https:// means to encrypt data with (public-private key pair) between client and server. So this will add an extra layer of security and to avoid data being manipulated in between.

    So in using http:// vs https:// , the later should be preferred.
