Sitemap.ashx Vs Sitemap.xml

Hi Everyone,

One of my sites has a sitemap.ashx instead of an xml one submitted to Google Search Console. Do you know the difference between the two files? is it good to use a sitemap.ashx?

If it send valid xml in return as in .xml format. I think its fine.

Most likely you will want to use sitemap.xml

Have you inspected the actual source of the two - does it match sitemaps protocol?

ASHX is what would be used for an ASP (Windows) based website. XML is what would be used for a PHP (Linux) based website. Both do the same thing, it comes down to what type of web hosting you use.
