Recently we got an SSL certificate for our website. Does this affect keywords rankings, traffic and leads?

SSL Certificate is considered good for your site if you are selling stuff. It means that you are not passing information like contact details and credit card unsecure.

So if you have SSL Certificate it is seen as an addition over those sites that don't have a certificate.

They will improve your ranking because your site is perceived as valuable by your customers.

But as far as google there is no idea how they use that for ranking. I do not think it appears high on their list.

It may be counted if two pages get the same rank and then to decide which one to promote above the other. But it will on overnight improve your ranking like other other factors that matter like backlinks, comments and shares.

    Hope this helps.

    Stay focused. Stay Rich.

It's unlikely you`ll get a ranking boost due to switching, however, this may become more of a ranking factor in future, at least Google totally encourages it ('moving to secure web').

There even may be a temp ranking drop, or at least some ranking turbulence after you redirect to https - that`s normal, but you should really look out for any possible issues you might have overlooked (like improper redirects, broken resources, mixed content or broken social media popularity counters, etc.).

In case you`ve done all the right way - the rankings commonly stabilize shortly.

  • SSL Certificates are small data files that digitally bind a cryptographic key to an organization's details. When installed on a web server, it activates the padlock and the https protocol (over port 443) and allows secure connections from a web server to a browser.

There is no ratings boost. People misread google all the time.

That's like saying if you pay the entry fee to run the boston marathon, then you have a better chance of winning.

Paying the fee does not give you a boost in winning.

Some fools will even misread that. They will swear since you can't win if you don't pay the fee, then by paying the fee you automatically get a boost. Yeah....right.

And out of the top runners....they could care less about the wannabes paying the fee....

If you were disappointed in your results today, lower your standards tomorrow.

I believe what Google actually said is that for some queries it does. I image that may be for e-commerce queries maybe...

Visitors might even get warnings on certain pages of your website that may prompt them to drop off your website. In other words? An SSL certificate is essential for some businesses.

SSL certificate is good for website as well as their customer's too. Because SSL certificate helps to secure important data while online shopping or accepting any confidential information from customer.

If talking about keywords ranking and traffic of the website then it is one of the factor for google to boost search engine rankings so to enable it will give your positive impact either it is ranking or customer's trust towards your website etc.

It's definitely a good thing. Big sites (ahem, warriorforum.com) who don't use SSL are starting to lose trust as far as I am concerned. Who knows maybe one day browsers won't allow access to non-SSL sites.
