I have been using Dreamweaver for many years but i found out it's much faster and seo friendly to develop webpages using Wordpress themes.
I don't know if there is any advantage with free vs paid themes.
Is it a good idea to invest in a theme?I will be using for Adsense/PPC.

it is allowed to blogger and wordpress to be uploaded with new themes of your liking.. as to advantages, i think free themes are great simply because they are and there are many themes out there that you can choose from..

The only theme I would pay for is Thesis. It's loaded with some really nice options.

Woo themes are nice, but I've found them very time consuming to customize and they tend drain my server resources much faster than simple themes.

It really depends on what kind of site you're making.

I guess my answer would be "no" to buying themes.

If you get a nice FREE WP theme then why to go for the paid themes. Searching the right FREE WP theme is really a challenging task. Free or Paid WP theme has nothing to do with SEO. You can optimize both the Paid and Free WP themes.

You can edit out those footers at the bottom real easily. Just go to Appearance->Editor and look in the footer.php file (sometimes another file but you can check them all) and just search for the link code to the theme. Then comment it out or just delete it.

I agree with the above posts, I use free Wordpress themes on domains that I own - but sometimes I just edit them a little for my specific site

Usually free wordpress themes may have sponsor links. Paid themes may have designer links. And you need to pay for footer removal if you would like to remove footer credits. Now a days free themes comes with many options like premium themes. You will get good paid support & update on paid themes but may not on free ones.

Honestly, if you go the paid route, get the program "Artisteer"

It costs the same as one paid theme, but with it you can make limitless themes VERY easily, in just a few button clicks.

If you go the free route, get "flexibility" theme. It's great.

      Ahem...cough...cough.

Sites that charge for themes are breaking copyright laws if they don't let you give away the theme to others freely. ALL Wordpress theme source code (not any Javascript or Images) is considered a derivative work of Wordpress itself and MUST be licensed under the same terms as Wordpress itself.

Namely the GPL (General Public License) which entitles everyone to freely copy, modify, and share such a theme.

So if you pay for a theme the source code of that theme can be legally copied and freely distributed under the GPL notwithstanding any objections from the theme creator.

Anybody creating Wordpress themes needs to be aware of this and not get involved in creating themes if they have objections to their source code being considered GPL alongside Wordpress itself.

GPL doesn't say that everything must be zero-cost, just that when you receive the software or theme that it not restrict your freedoms in how you use it.

A majority of people selling WP themes are also selling their services - lifetime support and updates, etc. Most times this is more than worth it, considering how often WP updates. -wordpress.org

I don't think so. I personally like WuThemes. Their themes are pretty clean, and easily integratable for SEO. There is such a good selection.

If I were you, I'd start with the free themes and figure out how to customize them to your liking. Once you're comfortable and making money you might consider paid themes. If you're sure you can make back the $25 - $125+ cost of a custom theme then go for it. Sometimes it's better to not be so vanilla - and go custom/paid.

if you are just doing affiliate marketing with wordpress I wouldn't spend any money on themes. If you are trying to build a brand then yes go custom. Our blog theme is hand drawn and cost a ton of money but it is exactly what I wanted.

Stick with free themes, there are a couple of free themes aimed at mfa sites. I am somewhat happy with a theme called prosense, giving me descent ctr. Just search G for "adsense wordpress themes".
