Hi,
What keyword research tools (free ones if there are any) would people recommend? I'm basically after a tool that lets me know what people have been searching for, and ideally show trends over time.

I've had a look at a few, but the keywords that I'm assuming people search for when looking for the services that I offer often come back with 'not enough data to display results' or words to that effect. I know that I operate in a small, niche market (mountaineering guiding and instruction), but I know that there are plenty of people searching for what we offer.

LOL, in good old time content would create keywords, now...
forget content, let a tool to describe what product we're offering to the market.

Do you realize that tool will provide the same "solutions" to your competitors?
Why not to use something unique and native to your site and put yourself on top?

Thanks all. Ubersuggest and Keyword Planner seem to be easiest to use free tools. I certainly don't need anything that requires a monthly subscription! Google Trends won't display any data for my search terms, as 'there's not enough data'.
