#1 and #2 on Google - No content? How They Do That?

Hi All,

If you look up "love spells" (no quotes), the #1 and #2 spot is a site with (a) little to no direct content and (b) seems to be showing one thing to Google/SERPS and another to human eyes. (the initials of the site are c.y.l.s.)

How they do that? I've viewed the pages source, I've checked their backlinks on comment blogs that have 0 to do with the topic, and basically realize its a computer generated site, which has spammed nofollow AND dofollow blogs.

Anyone have any theories on how they accomplished this? About 2 months ago, they were #3 for their /love.php page for that key word, but now they managed #1/#2 spots!

Why am I looking for love spells you ask? Ha! (I'll never tell! ;-)

The current #2 rank for love spells is a page that is short and "fake testimonials". Now, if only we can know their secret sauce for REAL sites with REAL useful content!

Anyone care to venture on what they used and how they are "gaming" Google for top spots?

Thanks and...

Happy Holidays folks!
Kaity

A few things at work here.

First, having a lot of content is nowhere near as important as people say it is. All that "you need 1500+ words of content" stuff is just not true.

Second, for as much as it gets searched, the phrase "love spells" is not all that competitive of a term. None of the sites on page one seem to have many links. It's possible they are all using private networks and hiding them, but it is doubtful that all of them are doing that.

Lastly, in addition to the external links, the entire site has a lot of internal links.

Love spells are highly valued and is a highly profitable niche..

      I've made billions.

Only billions? With all those other spells at your disposal on that site, that's pathetic.

And I didn't say anything about whether or not it was profitable. I've known people in a few similar niches. They are highly profitable because people are stupid.

I've seen this "love spells" anchor text target keyword all over the forum sites spamming every thread and Indian spammers are all doing that black hat technique. I'm not surprised they are dominating for that crap keyword and it is true that he made billions of crap. Ooops

There are various things that have be taken in consideration when Google SEO is concerned. If they have managed to get on top fast probably they might be using Softwares to create something on back which might let them last longer on google

They have to have some serious back-linking going on somewhere.

I told you that this site is full of content, look at the sidebar and the site pages indexed on Google, why have you not seen this, if this is the correct site,

So this is not true, major content on this site,

    site:changeyourlifespells.com
    About 26,100 results (0.29 seconds)

There's not all that much content. Love Spells: Cast a Powerful Free Love Spell to Make Someone Love You leads to the text-only cache of the page showing at #1.

It's got enough content, but not major.

But, like Mike said, large quantity of content is not all people around here say it is. You CAN rank a blank page if you so desired.

This page ranks because there are enough internal and external backlinks and enough onpage SEO to outperform other pages.

Thank you all for your input. "Confession" time!

Since 1999 I've been creating various "psychic" type of sites and while I never made "billions", I did put my kid through private school and paid my rent (although lately the money is kinda of "short") - which is why I asked the question in the first place.

And no, I'm not psychic. Its' just a business, you know - like your local "church" ;-)

G00gl "gods" keep changing their algorithms and I must be getting old because I'm just not keeping up (sad face!!!) and now sites are getting like 10 visitors a day (in my best years, it was like 1,000 visitors - no joke).

So, before I retire, I just wanted to understand wtf the #1 guy who has nothing more than a "form" and "internal links" on the side of the page (a/k/a "menu") that lead to more FORMS... has going on.

I think Anaya Ahmed hit it right on the head. Guess I'll have to "fire up" the old scrapebx again if I want backlinks (yeesh, really g-gods, backlinks? So, 2000!)

Corey Rudl (R.I.P. marketing guru when I started) said it best, if I had the money I'd just buy PPC ads and backlinks then trying to keep up with SERPS ever-changing rules (paraphrasing)!

    Happy New Year everyone!

Don't even try. My local church feeds the hungry, helps families in need and tries to mend broken marriages with children.

Those sites just peddle to idiots that believe spells on the internets work.

Theres no big mystery here. The site has enough content to rank for a junk niche

and now sites are getting like 10 visitors a day (in my best years, it was like 1,000 visitors - no joke).
Bless Google's heart. when it goes to zero I'll buy the team beers.

      And no, I'm not psychic
      No kidding.

Oh Mike Anthony, did not even try to offend (and by the way, I'm old enough to remember Pastor Robert Tilton mailing lil' old ladies pieces of rags, a/k/a "prayer cloths" in exchange for MONEY) - so, there are GOOD people in the world - and there are some people that sell B.S. (*including* religion, astrology, what have you). Happy New Year!

hint: TV evangelists aren't my local church

Google considers searches for things like love spells, J U N K. They don't care. You search for junk, they will give you junk and make no bones about it. Where can I get some crystal meth in my neighborhood? Why not target that?
