Does a 'noindex' tag remove the page from google or just stop google bots from accessing it?

I'm trying to enhance our SEO through the robot.txt file.

I've just been doing some reading on it but there's one thing I want to make sure I understand before editing.

Does the code: Disallow: /thankyou/

For example, would that just stop the page from being accessed by google when it does a crawl, or does it wipe it from the internet completely meaning it would return a 404 tag?

    For removing page you need to use Search Console Tool, noindex o robots.txt is just a basic requirement.

    You want to add a noindex tag to the page itself. That removes it from Google but does not prevent crawling.

    I would not use robots.txt for that. Robots.txt is often ignored.
