Sharing content without penalty

A company, who is in my industry but who is not a direct competitor, expressed initial interest in republishing one of my popular blog posts on their site because it features several of their branded products.

Maybe let them copy the whole post and give me a link? They are a high authority site in my industry. Maybe let them copy up to 80% of it with a note to click to read the whole thing on my site?

I don't want to risk Google preferring theirs and losing my ranking as duplicate content. Their Moz DA and organic traffic are pretty close to my levels, if that matters.

Any other kinds of deals I haven't thought of?

    If you go with this deal, then there are chances that Google counts your site content as duplicate because of low ranking.

    It's better to post original and unplagiarized content only.

    Even in 80% copy also, the spam score of your website can increase with the copied and reusable content.

    You might consider writing an abstract for them that highlights the main points and then doing a "see the full article here" type of link from that abstract.

    It's either that or you have to write a completely original version of your article for their site if you want to be on the safe side.

    As you are the original (and indexed source) don't worry about duplicate content. However, to make sure you get all the value I would indeed incorporate a link back to your blogpost.

      I would not count on that being the case. There have been plenty of instances where more powerful sites have outranked the original, indexed content.

      Why not? Google ranks duplicate content over original content all the time, if the duplicate has more SEO juice.


      Seems like the site the OP is talking about has a lot more power than his, if they link to the article from one of their good pages, it can get Google to rank their page over the OP's page.

    I'd tell them to write a little, unique, genuine intro, then link to your blog post. Avoid dupe content. Gain a backlink from an authority blog. Win-win.

    1. Ask them to use a short excerpt and link to your site for complete article.
    2. Alternatively, create new content for them based on the original.



    Never forget to ask them for the link back to your site.

    If they link back to your site, it's a good way to get new traffic to your site.

    One alternative would be to ask them to include a 'canonical url' reference in their meta-tags that specifies that your site should be preferred over theirs. But they might not have included such an option in their own site.
