Could this page be penalized due to links pointing at it?

Hello guys,

I work on a site that, overall, ranks very well. Including many first place positions for highly competitive keywords.

However, there is one page, I've never been able to get ranking. I've optimized it well with onpage content (quality, original, helpful, targeted), internally linked from other related pages, bots can find it. There are two dofollow links built to it from forums.

I'm wondering if this last step (which has worked on other pages), may be penalizing this page...

Have you heard or seen of pages on a site being penalized because a couple of direct links, while rest of site is good?

Reason I ask is, because I'm considering disavowing the links.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Don't disavow links... waste of time... If they're bad, Google's already ignoring them.

You have 2 backlinks to the page and are wondering why you are not ranking.

For keywords with competition, you need backlinks. Sometimes thousands. Good ones.

    How competitive is the keyword?

    It's fairly competitive.

With the same amount of backlinks, I've been able to get other similarly competitive terms ranking. Site home page has a significant value from links pointing to it, passing some link juice down to this page through internal linking. It's also hyperlinked from other valuable internal pages on the site, and well-optimized from an on-page standpoint...

When checking the Google Search Console report in Analytics, Landing pages report, it shows very spotty impressions... like, it's not in the results steadily, but in a low position, rather it's in and out of the results, which is what is strange to me...

Do you really think it would be that easy to get a page penalized?

Nobody would bother trying to rank pages. They would just de-rank all their competitors instead.

I could build a million links like that in about 24 hours if that was all it took to knock out my competitors.
