Domain age and Competition

Guys,

just wondering how much Google uses domain age when ranking for teh number 1 spot?

If I have more backlinks full on page SEO vs none

Can I beat a 10 year old site?

And how much does Page rank and Domain Age compete for on page SEO and Backlinks.

I know no one knows exactly just wanted advice

    You can beat an old site with enough backlinks in my humble opinion...but they are starting with an advantage. My theory always is - start now and keep working at it every day. Eventually you will beat that site. Good luck.

    Domain age is important. I have a site from 1998 that easily beats a lot of other sites - sometimes with no backlinking required, granted it is not a competitive niche.

    But domain age is not the only thing. Just one more thing that has to be taken into consideration.

    You can beat a site with higher domain age with the proper onpage SEO and backlinking. Its just harder than beating a newer site.

    As I understand it,
    The length of time a domain is registered for also has some bearing (heard it through the grapevine)

    It is 'rumored' 75% of websites disappear every year. Don't know how accurate that is. But if it is even close, hanging in there would become a huge advantage over the long run?
