Effective <title tag> pointers

Writing for the spiders (and rank) is a lot different than writing for readers. Most bloggers get caught up in trying to build link bait for their titles but the uphill battle that they face is if they try to get too cute, they won't rank for the what they were hoping to rank for.

For example:

If I was gunning to rank for "forex for beginners", if I wanted to write for the spiders, I would probably write a title like "The Forex Guide for Beginners", and then start doing the usual stuff to try to get it ranked.

If I was gunning for "readers" and trying to establish a reader base, I would probably try to get a little more cute with my headline. Something like "How to Predict Winners from Losers for Forex Beginners." (not a good title but you get the idea)

Now from an on-page SEO point of view, my title written for the spiders will rank better from the outset (all things considered equal, which they normally aren't) than my one written for readers.

So, IF you are looking to build a following, cutesy titles won't be as big of a deal but chances are you will have to really work to promote it in a different way than those of us that are trying to get our traffic organically......

For years, I had tried to be cute with my headlines and didn't start to get search engine traction with cometitive keywords until I started writing the way in which the spiders liked.
