Affiliate E-Commerce Site Keyword Structure

Hey guys,
I have experience with niche websites, but I just need a little hand with an Affiliate E-Commerce site.
The e-commerce site has a similar structure to this:
Home page - Summary of the 6 product categories
6 Product Categories - Individual products under that category
Blog - Which will be updated once in a while
Privacy, contact etc...
I am aiming to structure the keyword for SEO of the site like this...
- 2-3 keywords per category
- For the home page, optimized for the primary keyword of each category.
So the home page will have 6 keywords to optimize for, and the individual categories will have around 3 good keywords to optimize for.
Is this a good strategy to follow?
Any advice and tips would be much appreciated.
