Just a few questions for you guys..

1. What is the difference between follow and nofollow backlinks?

2. How can you tell if a sites links are follow or no follow?

Im trying to put together a backlinking plan where I find my own backlinks but I still dont have a very good understanding of backlinking. I just got into IM again recently and the only experience I have with backlinking is with articles. Trying to earn that 40 for the war room and been slowing figuring out a strategy for that as well.

Thanks everyone.

There are no "follow" links. There are only links that may use
the tag "nofollow," or ones that don't. Just view the html source for the page,
look for the links and the "nofollow" with them.

You can get all sorts of toolbars to alert you with bells and whistles.
But to me it's much ado about nothing.

Too many people worry about the nofollow tag. I myself
could care less. A link is a link is a link.

Nofollow might not "help," but it does not hurt either.
It is amazing how powerful google is. They come up with
a "nofollow" tag, convince webmasters to use it, and create
new cults. The nofollow tag hurts nobody. It only helps google
in convincing webmasters to help them ignore spammed links.
But even this ignoring is iffy.

No follow was created a few years ago by google in their attempt to fight spammers, in particular blog comments to get a link. As a result most blogs are nowadays no follow, meaning you cannot get easy free link juice this way. Overall no follow links have little to no value, but yes a link is a link,..., preferably without the nofollow tag.

So how do people decide if a site is good for linking? Is there a method to this?

a site is good for linking?? not sure what that means.

what I said is links are automatically no follow at some places such as blog comments; if someone links to you because they like your content, usually it is not a no follow link.

Sorry for the confusion. When looking to create backlinks to your page or website, how do you determine where to create these backlinks. I know of some like articles, forum posts or blog posts but how do determine if its a good backlink or not?

Hopefully you understand what im asking because im confusing myself even more

There is no "follow" tag. And a "nofollow" does not 100% guarantee
a non SE follow. If your page is on the web, it get's crawled. Nofollow
is for not wanting to pass link juice on.

Has nothing whatsoever to do with search engines crawling your page.

Blog commenting is passe anyway. Blog commenting for links has
ruined the whole blog commenting thing.

But a link is a link is a link is a link. Don't confuse the "nofollow"
with "no traffic." And there appears to be debate as to whether
yahoo and bing actually pay any attention to a tag that google
      came up with.

Yes, if you know few tricks to comment for traffic, you can get tons of targeted traffic!

        1. Identify related authority blog in your niche. (It must have tons of traffic)

        2. Write on topic and brilliant comment, very eye catching points to attract click through your site.

        3. Try to get on top of each authority blog for commenting, use this software - comment sniper (hopefully the url is correct)

Repeat doing it with top 30 authority blogs, you should benefit a lot of traffic to your own blog, this is legitimate ethical way of commenting.

I use the Firefox nodofollow plugin (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5687) - right click to toggle on or off as needed. nofollow links highlight in red and dofollow blue.

There are lists around of dofollow blogs, social bookmarking, and forums. Google it.

Some say nofollow is not important, especially on active blogs and forums because the people there see links and check you out sometimes. I agree but when I can I fly dofollow.

You can just view source and check if the code contains "nofollow". Or you can use many free tools out there to browse sites. A site is good for backlinking if its dofollow, have a good niche-related traffic and its better if they have a high pr

Firefox plugin NoDoFollow is really great and help you to identify the links wheather they're do follow or no follow. Links from the do follow niche sites are really helpful for getting high ranking in Google. But at the same time no follow links are also ok. They might not help you from search engine ranking but you can also get good amount of visits if you post in a good place.

Many SEO experts and established bloggers have proven that the common theory that linking out without no-follow depletes your page rank for that page is totally not true. The PageRank of a page is only affected by the number and quality of its incoming links, and not by the outgoing ones. But I still think people like to believe or play it safe and don't wish to take the risk.

Do you use firefox? If so, can you download and install the NoFollow plug-in.

It will HIGHLIGHT URL's that are no followed. No-follow links aren't of much use.

I get that a "nofollow" link doesn't pass on "Link Juice" but on some of my sites I have actually found that I get a lot of traffic from comments. Usually it is the comments that I actually really had an opinion and didn't comment to get a link back. I think any link back is helpful, even a "nofollow" link.

I would not build nofollow links for SEO obviously, but nofollow links on sites related to your niche can be VERY helpful.

They used to have NoDofollow plugin for firefox but it is not compatable with the latest version of firefox sadly. You could always manually check the source code and verify the "nofollow" tag is not in front of the links.

I think "nofollow" is helpful for the source site. If there is a link in a comment in a blog or forum which links to a malware site, with nofollow tag the source site can avoid negative effect of that link for itself.

No follow links might not help you to get any benefit from search engine ranking perspective but it can help you a lot to get target traffic to your site. While posting comment in blogs you'll find most of them no follow. But your informative and interesting comment can influence others to visit your site through the link you're using over there. Articlebase is a good article directory site, it's no follow but posting interesting and informative articles over there can help you a lot to provide good number of traffic to your site.
