    very interesting list that you have made here, but some of these methods do work. Although they may be questionable. With most of what you listed I think that it is more of a matter of worrying about wasting time and money. As opposed to getting banned from the search engines.

    If you use a bit of tact on your link building they will tend to stick better.

    I agree with you, some of this methods do work but a lot of people use it wrongly and as a result, they barely get the desired result.

    Very nice list here Johnben! I always believed you have to contribute value before you start soliciting backlinks. I hope this post will diminish bad backlinking practices which does not only cause headaches for other website owners but may also cause suffering for the website the person is promoting.

      To be honest, I really don't think I would want to do any of these. I'd risk my entire Internet Marketing strategy to ruins when Google finds out what I've been doing.

    I believe if some one use this technique in a write way then he will surely get good results from Google. And if he do these mistakes as defined above so definetly their site will be penalized.

    I want to know why Google is not penalizing tiffany jewelery or UGG boots website. They are the biggest spam sites i had ever seen in my life. if found their links every where in every comment field

    We are so obsessed with backlinks that we look through our rose tinted glasses and dont see the full picture.
