Not enough data under local search volume?

Any idea about this: When i select USA as a country in Google keyword tool and i search for "link building" as a keyword.....

After data get displayed, from show and hide option i have selected show "local search Volume".

When i scroll down a bit more, i see this: for keyword "affordable link building" there is "Not enough data" under local searches, but i can see "260" monthly searches under global searches.....what does it mean?

Does it mean - that keyword is no one searching from USA (as i selected my local country USA) but globally it's being searched by some small portion of people around the globe but not from USA.....becz it is showing "not enough data under "local search volume" ?

If that is a case, than it means i shouldn't target those keywords for USA which are showing "Not enough data" under local search volume, because there is no one searching that keywords and i will waste my time...isn't it

What is your opinion on this? waiting for your kind reply, thanks in advance!

  • I'm pretty sure it simply means that the keyword phrase doesn't get a statistically significant amount of search volume. This doesn't mean it doesn't get any... but it's low volume. Very long tail.

The local volume is based on last month (and it might not have had many searches last month). The global is the average monthly search volume world-wide over the last 12 months.

Ranking on page 1 (or better yet top 1-3 positions) for keyword phrases that get 5 searches per month is 1000x better than ranking on page 5 for phrases that get 1,000,000 searches per month IMO. No one is going to see your link if you're not on page 1.

Yes i do agree, mostly am looking to build some niche sites for those keywords which have actually fair exact searches every month, i don't have any issue having site which has just 10 or 50 exact searches a month

The important fact is - will niche marketing people build any site (or inner page of niche site) for those keywords which are showing as "not enough data"?

These search volumes quoted are NOT natural search volumes, that is, the number of
searchers who type your phrases into Google. The numbers quoted refer to the number
of impressions of an Adsense ad has, assuming that the budget hasn't been exceeded.
If the budget has been blown, then natural searches are therefore going to be higher.
