How to learn Search engine optimization

I'm VERY new to Search engine optimization, but eager to learn.
Is there a free site / thread / e-book etc. that can teach me about seo. I don't want to pay an expensive company, I actually want to learn about it, so, I can help myself.
can anyone suggest a site or book etc?

    I used three methods to learn what works and what doesn't:

    1. Spend a lot of time on the warrior forum (especially SEO section)
    2. Read Ken Evoy's FREE Affiliate Master's Course (easy to download because lots of his affiliates promote it). Pay special attention to the keyword research and traffic generation sections.
    3. Start implementing some of the SEO you have learned

    Step 3 is the most important part. You can read heaps and heaps of conflicting information, but until you put something into practice yourself, you'll never really know what works.

      By doing,
      i spent a lot of time on here reading, but it was not until i started doing that it I started to learn.

      Quick Steps to take,
      1. read info on here or from the search engines themselves.
      2. Start using one or two methods learnt
      3. measure results, this is a must with out a measure you can not judge if they are working.
      4. repeat, repeat, repeat.


      I must thank the forum for being here there is a lot of info in this site.

        There is a ton of information right here in this forum as well as all kinds of free information on other sites online. There is no shortage of information out there on SEO. Do a search, there are plenty of blogs, forums and websites with free information and tools for SEO.

    Actually you can learn just by reading threads right in this board because the folks here are the ones working actively with it, right there in the trenches XD

    Hit up a search on SEO and you'll get plenty of articles, but watch the dates on those articles. The ones I seem to find are mostly from years ago and this is an ever changing thing.

    Good timing on that question I just got hold of a really great resource yesterday and it's certainly a great guide to SEO and is and simple easy to follow info too, it's a PDF and you can download it free here It's quality as I am sure you will agree. If you need any more help just shoot me a line.

    I like most doing IM for a couple of years am able to get my sites ranked on 1st page using simple SEO techniques. Right now I'm shooting for a supa competitive search phrase well 16million competing pages and after only 7 weeks am on page 2 ... But will get there soon with the white hat techniques that I use

    After you read 2-3 books and sticky threads on webmaster forums, pick a website of yours and practice on it. That's the perfect way to see where you are doing great, what are your mistakes etc.
