Hey MA,

First, are your pages inner linked on your site? If not, they need to be.

Second, do you have money to invest for backlinking or are you looking for strictly free methods?

If you have money, you should invest in some backlink packets...there are plenty of WSOs available for the purposes you seek.

If you are looking for the free avenue, articles would be your best bet. Yes, that would be a lot of articles, but you could start out writing articles for the pages you want to rank quickly. Once you get those pages ranked, work on the other pages...and so on and so forth.

Jordan: thanks for the quick reply.

A small investment wouldn't be a problem except that it's still in the testing phase.
The pages are linked via a fly out menu system and a site map.

I'm embarrassed to say, I still don't really know what WSO means. Can you recommend a few good back link packets?

I can't figure out how to test it. I won't have a clue using organic techniques until I place in the top 5 or so for Google. By then I've largely done the job.

How would you go about testing something like that? I'm aware of AdWords but sheesh, I've lost hundreds in a couple hours that way (cuz I'm an idiot <grin>).

If you have the capability to outsource, then you can do a article marketing campaign for your targeted keyword since it is not easy to do manually and also takes a lot of time.

The other method is to get some links from high PR pages. One of the easiest way is to do is commenting. The amount of links depend on the number of competitors for that keyword you are targeting.

You said, your links are interlinked, That's perfect. So on-site-optimization is perfect you mean. And as you have low budget, Try some low budget link building methods..

Do some work for your inner pages as well which will really gives value for the main page as well. let me know if you need any help for choosing link building packages. . Thank you

Search google for free blog sites where you can create blogs, spin some articles to post to those blogs and put some links in them. Then use something like only wire or some other social bookmarking sites to bookmark those blogs. And use pingler.com or pingomatic.com or other pinging sites to ping the blogs to get the spiders running.

I'm starting to think that maybe a 50-100 page site might be too big of a venture to start?

If average monthly search volume on a keyword phrase is say, 10,000 (can of worms here I know) can we project an approximate number of back links required to reach #1. Probably not huh? A range at least?

Is there any criteria to project at least generally what can be expected over a specific period? Say 3 months? What if we include competition criteria?

The number of searches doesn't tell you anything. Look at the top 10 competition on google and check how many backlinks they have, and you'll have an idea of how strong your competition it. Check out the criteria I lay out in the WSO in my signature.

Firstly, go in for on page factors:
#Title with keywords
#Description with keywords in it
#Proper keyword density or sprinkling of your main keywords in your home page content
#Internal linking to the pages using the keywords chosen for those pages from each of your pages
#A sitemap

Then go in for the kill with your Link building efforts
Inititally target your hompage and its keywords, then slowly pick up pace and start naturally targeting all the pages in your site.
SEO is a long term goal and nothing happens overnight, also it works differently for each site, you will not learn until you start doing it

I regularly put 3 or 4 backlinks in each article.
No problem other than that some directories will drop the fourth one.

Rotate which is last, and you are fine.

Or if you don't like putting more than one in, then spin your links.
