Go Silo or......... any expert knowledge?

I've seen a couple of threads on forums to the effect that the algo changes now favour silo structure.

What's your opinion/knowledge on the issue?

I'm a bit dubious cause the only internal linking other than the "one in one out" would have to be restricted to each individual silo.

It doesn't have to be restricted to each individual silo. You could very well link between silos. Avoiding interlinking silos is like the drill sergeant way to do it. I've got several silo structured websites and I occasionally link between silos. If an article is relevant to another article in a different silo I always link them.

I think avoiding linking relevant posts just for some rigid regime is nonsense. Linking relevant pages makes sense. Not doing it doesn't.

If you are planning on building a big site I would use a silo structure if it makes sense for your niche and your site. If not, don't worry about it. It really isn't going to make a huge difference in my experience.

The main reason I do it is to keep the site easily navigable for the user. Any search engine benefit I get from it is just an added bonus.
