Does Domain Expiry effect Google ranking?

I was talking to a friend of mine the other night and he is trying to tell me that if you have only say, 5 months left on your domain that Google will look poorly on your site - I guess the reason being that a lot of mini sites have short term domain registrations

Any truth to this at all?

thanks in advance

I don't think so. Can't say for sure since I'm not google, but my domains run down to the wire before I renew them every year and I've never seen any sort of issue with rankings as they get closer to expiring.

None whatsoever. That's a myth, probably started by a domain registration service.

no, my site is a PR6 and I renew manually yearly...
it doesn't make any difference whatsoever. Where do people come up with such mis-information?

    Yeah just a vague myth.

Probably true but if you plan on making money, spending time optimizing the site, etc. then why not extend it for a year to make sure just in case? It only costs a few bucks to play safe.
