If you create thousands of 'profile' pages how does Google access and index them if there is a login page before even you can access them?

They can't. I've seen some backlink profile sellers claiming that they can but I am not buying it.

Google will never crawl past a login screen, so if you want something to be indexed make sure it can be accessed without logging in.

Interesting theory...how does google go about getting login details to access member only content? I think you are misunderstanding the question

It would depend on how the forum works, wouldn't it? On some forums and private sites you can't view posted threads or make posts without logging in.

On other forums you can read but can't post without logging in. The threads in the WF often show very quickly in google search results.

I've seen forums where you could access profiles without logging in - others you can't.

Exactly... This includes profiles that can (or can't) be seen, whether a login is required, or not.

Only if the forum operator allows it...

has nothing to do with what we are talking about. If a site is in the cache then it was crawlable at that time. If it can't now crawl the site again the benefit will shortly vanish. We are only talking about protected sites

read the bolded part. Get it now? He was specifically asking if they were protected would Google be able to bypass the protection

Excellent replies Warriors, it's what I suspected if you have to login big G can't find your post only if it's made public to one and all and the login is only to post a reply.

No, Google doesn't have magical powers to see things that require a login. If you want that information to be indexed, tho, you can do this:

    1) Create a Google compatible sitemap with containing all your pages and their weight (if you're using wordpress there are plugins to do this automagically)
    2) Write up a script to bypass authentication for Googlebot, so it can view the pages and index them.

This has implications though. If a user is using some method to mimic Googlebot HTTP headers then they can view the content without logging it (they'd also need to know where to look)

Its a trade off but an option if you really want Google to index these pages.

You can create login info for google though for services like adsense and other services. But if the data is protected with a login screen, then the contents can not be indexed.
