Say I have a WordPress blog about "self adhesive envelopes" at selfadhesiveenvelopes dot com (totally made that up BTW). I want to rank my home page in the SERPs. Would it be better for SEO purposes to have my ten most recent posts on that homepage (which then link to each of their post-pages), or should I just have one static home page and have all the rest of the posts on their respective pages? Or should I say screw the posts and just have those articles (that would've been in posts) on pages (rather than posts)? Any difference between posts and pages in WordPress in terms of SEO benefit? Thanks!

I'm interested to know what people think on this as well. Right now I do post by post, but have seen others have one main page, and the posts are displayed in the sidebar. I think if you are trying to optimize for a main set of keywords than you should have that page as a static page always displayed.

Yeah, right now my homepages have all the posts on the actual homepage, but I'm thinking about converting all my sites to have a static home page, with posts on their respective pages. I feel as though it would be a little more organized that way and give the user a better experience...and increase my conversions a little more. I'm just afraid if I do that, my rankings will drop. But I figure, hey, I won't really know unless I try it for myself, so I'll be sure to keep this thread posted with my results.

I have three posts on my frontpage. Just as you, I think if someone visits and is not interested in the first (only) post, he might leave.
excerpts? Well I thought about them, but often it`s hard for me to decide where to put it... If I were to use them, I had to write very well made post introductions which are more like summaries. But I don`t like that idea (perhaps i`m lazy), so I decided to show full length post.
      Thanks

  • I think having 10 latest posts in home page and updating the homepage regularly with latest posts is good for seo.
And dont show full post in home page just show excerpt.

I think you're right - that's what I was thinking too. But sometimes I like to test my own little theories just to see if I was actually right. So I took all the posts off of my front pages and have just a static page now of around 400 words. We'll see what happens to my rankings and I'll be sure to post with updates!

P.S. The reason I did this was because I had a couple simple one-page sites before and they ranked in the top 5, so I just want to see if the actual content on the front page matters or not.
