Pretty much the same but I use SEO Book keyword tool or word tracker. And I haven`t been using a keyword density tool, I`ve just been playing it by ear. What tool do you use?

Well... Those are the exact steps that I used. I got lots of traffic from each of my individual posts.

By the way, change the permalink and install All in one seo pack plugin to use keywords in individual blog posts!

keyword density wont do much, especially if you abuse it, goog will catch on to that.

focus on the onsite optimization that matters most (url, title, tags, inner linking, etc)

the more you optimize your website as a whole, individual post will have more link juice and authority.

to keep going on what i said, i never blogged for SEO reasons or try to rank for anything, i always wrote because i just wrote whatever i felt like writing and sure enough after a year and change, I have a PR of 5 and good authority with Google.

now if i choose a keyword to optimize for, it'll get ranked for.

    * Use the Google Trends version of Wordtracker to pick out a keyword that has high volume but low competition
    * create contextual links to related posts in the body (internal linking)
    * use relevant images with "alt" text, and the keyword in the filename
    * "Bold" one occurrence of the keyword in the text
    * comment on related blogs, linking back to your post

These are all little things that you can do in addition to the above that I've found can help rankings.

Add tags and a couple of categories to each post.

The categories pages end up being themed.

How do you describe 'weak competition'?

How do you determine what is competition for a keyword?

I mean, I can see how many people searched for a keyword...?

How does one see 'weak competition'?

for example, I can use Google's keyword tool (or should I say AdWords tool)
I can see how many people typed in what phrase....

Where does one see 'competition' ?? I'm apparently missing something

      thanks

I think ultimately the best strategy is to be really organic. Since most people on this forum have agendas, they will be posting messages (not here per se) and the message won't be really organic. Obviously, this works if you are too spammy, but to really get power, other people need to find it useful (ultimately...and ideally to link to it but this is a stretch 99% of the time.) Still, by being organic in this way, you have more fun, or at least, your blog posts etc. are not dreadfully fake. Google shouldn't be messed with because then you can sleep at night and build linearly, instead of waking up one day and the algorithm sussed out that your posts were spam. In other words: forget trying to fool Google, just forget it forever. Content is king.
