Trying To Grasp This Blog Commenting For Links....

So im stuck a bit in buildling links outside of the norm (web 2.0, bookmarks etc) so when I think about it (and maybe im thinking to hard) im trying to get links back to me from the same sources or in the same niche HOWEVER 90% of those types of sites are my competitors as they sell/give away the same product (music)

So then I start checking out blog commenting. Im on the fence on this for a few reasons.

1. The blogs the comments would be posted on (mind you this is outsourced so its just blogs from PR0 to PR 6 or higher) would have NOTHING to do with my site as far as niche and customer base goes.

2. Under the impression that google looks at the quality of your back link so if its a link on a health food blog and my niche is music then it gives really no weight.

3. The link added may not stick as it could be flagged as spam and removed.

Am I just to cheap and blog commenting is a good way to build backlinks regardless if the blog has nothing to do with my niche?

How has blog commenting worked for you for a money site?

  • Blog commenting has some problems as you have mentioned. These problems are common when you are using automated means to comment on the blogs. The best way to have good results from blog commenting is to do it manually. Search for blogs that are closely related to your site and make useful comments on them. This is very tedious but it gives better results than just spamming blogs with automated tools.

If you have Market Samurai, they will help you narrow down blogs to post on that will match your music niche.

IMHO, I wouldn't worry about it. I typically never go after "relevant" links. In fact, i'm not even sure how one would properly define the boundaries of what is relevant and what isn't. I like links from authority sites, whether they are about hamsters or harleys. I personally have not noticed any appreciable difference in google rankings the few times I did test it and go for "relevant" links. Again, the issue there is you have a very limited pool. Even if someone did prove that relevant links were a little bit more powerful, IMHO I don't think it is worth your time to worry about it. It will be more time and cost effective for going for good links, no matter the topic.

Yes and no. While google does give different weights to backlinks, in my experience "relevance" (at least how humans would define relevance) has little effect. I'll happily take a PR5 link from a Hamster link to my site on Harleys. Any ...day...of....the...week.

Keep in mind that when blog commenting for links, you shouldn't be going for the links inside of the comment itself. Leave the URl and keyword name, and then leave an on-topic (to the blog post) comment.
