Reciprocal links

I have read that swapping links is not a great way to improve rankings these days. However, I have been submitting to some free backlink directories and a lot of them require a reciprocal link.

Opinions appreciated.

      You're right that a reciprocal link is not as strong as a one way link. However, it's probably still worth having, and certainly better than no links.

      If you already have a links page, create another one called something like extralinks.html
      Upload it to your site by FTP and don't have any of your web pages linking to it. People who view your site will not even be aware of it. Now just copy and paste the snippet of code the directories provide for their link onto this page, update by FTP and you're done.

      Although your site won't show all these extra links to normal visitors, Google will see them, and that's all that matters as far as the Directories are concerned.

        Thanks for that suggestion Myles, I do have several pages that are not accesible from my home page but they are there as far as anyone landing on them will be aware. I will put all the links on that page.

          My opinion? Forget them. Move on. There are plenty of ways to get high quality backlinks to your site that don't require you to post somebody else's link on your site.

    I'd agree with poeple saying that it's better to put your best foot forward on getting one way links of goos quality rather than devote your time for reciprocal links. Quality still matters a lot.

    I recommend that you DO NOT discount a good quality link exchange, even if it is a nofollow link on a quality web page. The amount of targeted traffic that you can get from a quality strategic link exchange can be amazing.

    I would not just randomly / blindly exchange links though that is not as great as it once was.

      I have read this all and I was unknown for some of the information about that came to know after reading your this of the post and want to say you that I really appreciating to you for sharing this her with us. According to me Reciprocal links can also help increase traffic to your website in two ways. First, you probably have some viewers visit their website by clicking the link direct reciprocity. Secondly, most Internet search engines also take into account the number of websites containing links to your website.

    Reciprocal links are not as strong as a one-way link but it is still a backlink.

    Does it contribute to your ranking? Yes.

    So if a directory asks for a reciprocal link, is it worth it? Depends. Because the more links you put on your site's pages, the more your PR gets diluted. So there is actually a debate about this.
