aw.. ok thanks.... i'm scurrently searching for keywords...

I saw "net speed' with 300k(I think) searces monthly.
There is no Competition with SEO thingy with it just this site hehe.
I thought I can get the spot cause there is no SEO setup or not even articles in this site just pure backlinks....

May be its title is not that fine, but the links are very powerful. It depends on the keyword you compete. If that guy does not optimize his site for that keyword, then you will probably get there in some weeks or months.

Even the person who doesnt know anything about backlinking gives this site a backlink..... I saw there inner pages... there are logos distributed...

Hi rayson you also have to consider monetization when you search for keywords. You can get a ton of traffic and no conversions. Speedtest.net is a well established testing site of internet speed. people doing a search for that are looking to test their speed so unless you are going to provide that service a very large part of that traffic even if you could rank are just going to hit the back button and leave in a second.

Thanks mike. Yes you're right. I'll get traffic but no money so what's the sense. I was trying to research for a keyword in the speed up the internet and this keyword "net speed" came up wih no direct competition. Inderect competition came up to be speedtest dot net. ouch hehe!

It's hard to say without seeing what the top 10 positions are, how many links they have going to the specific pages and what the PR of those sites are.

Frankly I'd throw out those metrics forever for all competitive research. Like someone has already said all that matters is the first page and whats happening on it.

Seo quake already tells you most of what you want to know on the front page and a few backlink checks tell you everything else. Those other guidelines just lead people astray

Again I would give this one a miss.

There is only 1000 exact searches a month for the term that you are after and for the amount of competition that there is I don't think it's worth it.

Most of the top 10 positions are heavily backlinked (BLP)

Hey Team,

Im certainly not an expert at seo and wont pretend to be BUT what i will say as an experienced offline marketer, why not look lower down the tree and pick the low hanging fruit first ?

Just take it easy and go where you can see and reach the fruit.

It really depends what you are chasing, im not an seo expert and so i dont go competing for high traffic high competition keywords BUT i still regularly fill my basket by just picking all the easy to reach cash.

Any site can be outranked but it depends on the keyword. I have found many keywords where authority sites dominate the top spots with thousands of backlinks. Most people would just walk away. But always take a closer look. Sometimes those sites don't have any backlinks with the keyword phrase in their anchor text. They just grab the top spots because there is no real competition for the keyword and they are the closest to being relevant.

You would not believe how many keywords are like this and everyone's keyword discovery tools skip them because of "golden rules" or other tool settings. Nothing is better than good old manual research... with the help of market samurai of course

I would second what prodigaljoe is saying. Most people do not understand that it is not about wining G1 position. You have too look at a relationship between the: speed test, "speed test" and [speed test], or between the broad match, phrase match and exact match.

If ratio of: speed test / [speed test], or general match / exact match, is close to 1.0, than that means that majority of people are simply typing in speed test and than you really do not have chance.

But, if ¦speed test¦ / [speed test] is closer to something like 0.1 or 0.0001 etc, that means that ¦speed test¦ is generally only a part of a longer phrase. That means that most of people are not typing ¦speed test¦, but "net speed test" or "broadband speed test" or "download speed test" etc. And in this variety lays your chance. Actually, it is fact, according to Google itself, that every day 25% of search phrases they never ever had seen before, besides the gigantic database they have. English language is the richest language on the planet, with over 500,000 words. Simply, one can express the same thing in so many ways.

What that means money wise, is that you do not need to be on G1 in order to scoop large money. You are not going to make same money as G1 site, but there is a lots of it left on the table if you scoop those "long tail" phrases around basic phrase ¦speed test¦.

Basically, you are not attacking frontally, you are approaching form a flank.

But if great sounding ideas are not enough, I have 1,600 visitors a month on a site, that ranks extremely well for a certain phrase. Usually around G3. I get only 30 visits for exact phrase match and about 1,500 on a long tail variations of that phrase. That is straight from G. Analytics.

Hi Rayson14,

Yes you can and probably already beat this site for all sorts of keywords.

Google doesn't rank pages based solely on the number of backlinks. They rank pages based on relevancy and backlinks can have an influence on relevancy scores. So it will require a great deal of effort to beat that website for keywords they have targeted with relevant backlinks, however it would be quite easy to beat that same website for keywords the are not specifically targeting and for which they have not earned natural backlinks targeting those keywords.

I think most folks replying to this thread were commenting on the difficulty of ranking for the primary keyword that the site is targeting, not for keywords they aren't specifically targeting.

If you build high quality back links through different SEO sources then you can surely beat your competitors. You also need to perform competition analysis to get better and fast results.
