The Authority of Links from High PR Sites

Hi,

My name is Max Harlow and I am new to these forums. I am about to embark on a new and exciting internet marketing career, so I am glad to have found these forums.

My question is about getting links to your site from sites that have a high PR. As I understand, links carry more "authority" if they come from sites that have a high PR.. my question is... Does the link have to come from the homepage of a site with a PR of say 4, or can it come from a sub-page in the site with a lower PR (as each individual page has its own PR) and still have the same authority as if it is coming from the home page with a PR of 4.

Essentially my question is will the authority of the link be the same if it comes from say a PR1 sub-page compared to if the link were on the home page of this site with PR4. Will this high PR essentially make the link on the PR1 subpage stronger or will the link have the same strength as any old link from a PR1 site.

I think, it is okay to do it on a sub page. As far as I know, Google looks at the root domain name of the link, and not the sub page. Just my two cents. Correct me if I'm wrong.

      Hi Max,

That is a good question and I will share with you what I have learned.

First, technically websites don't have PR. PR is assigned to the individual URL. This is why you can see the home page of a website display different PR when you use a slightly different URL that returns the same page.

Second, from my experience I have found that the value of a link is weighted, in part, by the page's PR along with other factors. So a link from a high PR homepage will have significantly more juice than an internal page with little or no PR.

Sorry, I'm going to cheat here and copy and paste a text file that I use on a daily basis to my backlinking customers. Yes, I typed this myself in the past!

It has been proven MANY times that profile backlinks carry the same link juice that the initial website has.
        One instance is this:
        Google this: angela
That search has 5 MILLION searches per MONTH.
Now notice... the second page on that search term is the website: angelasdiscountmarket.com/angela.html
That website is a person know as Angela (haha), who sells backlink packets.
She sells these backlink packets for one reason... they are the exact backlinks that have gotten her that #2 ranking on Google for YEARS for 5 million searches monthly.
And you know what? 97% of her backlinks are profile backlinks! Ahhh! That's right... the same very backlinks she used to get her site #2 for that search term, are almost all profile backlinks just like my PR8 and PR9!
Take my word for what it's worth. I am only providing you with straight up facts

Ignore my sales pitch in there.

Profile backlinks relates to... well... backlinks that are located in member profiles! Typically these on forums.

And you know what? The actual PAGE of the profile backlink is PR0, but with my statement above, this is easily disproved that profile backlinks give no link juice. In fact, I truly believe they give 'nearly' the same link juice as the main page.

Swords just did some work for me (see his sig) too soon to see results, though, I literally got the email last night with the backlinks his service provided!

CHEERS on GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE - I'm gonna give it a couple days before I make a decision on how successful the campaign was.... Though I'm sure it's SPITFIRE!

I found some Gems today... I was able to create 20 DOFOLLOW keyword anchored backlinks from 20 different blogs all ranking PR5 (with one PR7)!!!

We'll see what happens! Already pinged and meta indexed the sh*t out of them LOL!

I've just been using the following search strings, utilizing SEOQuake's In-Google function to load and order search result PR!

          PHP Code:
"keyword" "post a comment" inurl:blog name email website
"keyword" "post a comment" inurl:.edu name email website
"keyword" "post a comment" inurl:.gov name email website
          CHEERS!

This is actually very incorrect. The link juice from the homepage of a high PR site will be significantly greater than the juice from a profile page.

If you doubt the veracity of this, do a test. Start 2 brand new sites, same niche, targeting the same keywords, with the same on-page SEO. Give 1 site a link from a PR 5 homepage and the other site a link from an internal page on the same PR 5 site.

You will quickly see which link is more powerful. In fact, the homepage will be many many times more powerful.

Both the pagerank of the domain and that of the internal page with your backlink have a say in how much seo value that backlink gives you. Here, I broke it down for everyone:
(domain is the root domain, URL is an internal page on that same domain)
    Domain PR2/URL PR2 > Domain PR2/URL PR1 > Domain PR1/URL PR1 > Domain PR1/URL PR0 > Domain PR0/URL PR0

Yep, if its just an issue of PR that's the general breakdown. This is all assuming that all other variables (relevancy, in/outbound links etc.) remain constant. Now, someone earlier said something about Angela's profile links so I'll one of her profiles to try and explain more.

Just because you created a profile on a high domain with a high PR does NOT mean that your internal pages are going to eventually get to the same PR and give a nice bonus to your sites. A backlink from an internal page with PR0 on a domain with PR 4 is fairly powerful on its own. But that's not why Angela ranks as high as she does.

Here is one of her profiles: AngelaE8654's profile - Pho.to Community

You can see that the domain is PR 7 and since the last PR update the URL is PR 3. That's pretty good! But analyze that page a little more. You see that she has built backlinks to that profile page! Now it does not take much, but even building just five backlinks can really up the PR of that internal page and as great as a backlink from domain PR7/URL PR0 a backlink from domain PR7/URL PR3 is better.

If you are building backlinks on high PR domains like this take advantage of them and build some backlinks to them! Anything Is Better Than Nothing!
