Sitemap Importance

Hi mates,

I have been using Google XML Sitemaps plugin for some time now, but recently it has started to add non existing pages my sitemaps. They all look like 456.html and so on, just a number.
As you can expect Webmaster tools is showing lots of " not found " pages.
Can you pls recommend me a better plugin or a way to make the sitemap myself?

    Your post is titled "Sitemap importance."

    You only need a sitemap if there are pages of your content that
    google cannot readily find. That is, they are not linked off the main page
    somehow. That includes a link to a page with a link...

    But if they are buried, ask yourself why. I myself have never felt the
    need to use a sitemap. Google readily finds, crawls, and indexes anything
    I add.

    Just tried to use Google XML-Sitemap today. It seems to be not working. I guess, I'll just try again tomorrow..

    I know xml-sitemaps.com and it works good and if your pages are less than 500, it makes a sitemap for your website for free and you can upload it to your website.
