I know that every HTML page can have description which can be changed, but what about description in WordPress blog's post? Is excerpt responsible for this?

You can use an SEO plugin like Yoast's "Wordpress SEO", "All In One SEO" or Headspace to manage your posts meta description, titles, etc.

Otherwise as far as SERPS, Google will probably take the first 150 or so words of your post for your description or an excerpt from your post which Google feels is relevant to the search.

In any case, the Wordpress excerpt function does not control your post's meta description.

You are wrong. Google cannot display 150 words in description.

I think they meant to say 150 character spaces, instead of words.

But it will grab 150 characters from FIRST 150 words on the page? Or Google has ability to take ANY snippet from page containing keyword relevant to searcher's query?
