are links indexed when the page is

Hello
There are many sites that quote one of my sites and regularly link to material I have. I have no agreement with them to talk about my site. I find people mentioning my site all the time, but I am curious as to why those links are not found in either Yahoo or Google.
I know the individual pages are indexed (or I would not have found the links in the first place), but the links are not recoginized. Most of them are "do-follow". The links are within their content or posts.
So I am wondering ... do pages get indexed, but the links on those pages are not indexed at the same time?
And if they are not indexed, does it make sense for me to have someone social bookmark those pages? Does that help me at all?
