Hey i found a nice keyword with a guy on 1st spot. Page is 2.5 years old with 731 posts on his blog and 7 backlinks (1 from pr2 rest pr0). The post are not quality. They are kinda like updates of news on a way broader topic than the site. For example: If the keyword was BBQ(this is not my keyword ofc) then he would have news about cooking. What celebs cook etc. Seems like its totally automated. Also the 1 page he has besides his blog is low quality.
Is this going to be a hard opponent for me?
I mean,731..thats alot!

I have never looked at the amount of posts when trying to determine competition.

I look at the number of backlinks and the PR of the top 3 sites in Google.

7 Backlinks? That should take about a week (or less) to get to #1.

    Good Luck

he is pr1. im guessing he got that by the amount of post and (mostly) because of his age. 2nd is pr0. 3rd is pr4 but hes not really that much related to the keyword.

SerpAttacks says 7 backlinks and 400 sitelinks (not sure what they are) but 99% is from pr0 and nothing over pr2.

What kind of marketing would you suggest for me? I personally was thinking social media (automated) some article marketing and maybe converting them into video's too. Does that sound solid enuf?

Pr depends on backlinks not the number of pages on the site.

I look at the amount of posts VERY much. Every single post is another backlink to their index, and dozens of other links to other URLs on their site.

These are DOFOLLOW and they count.

We have a blog with 2100 posts on it and page rank 1. It gets #1 and 2# positions for plenty of keywords, competing with over 1.5 million pages. VERY scant inbound link work ever done on the domain.

      Size matters.

Here's and "sneaky" thing for you to do.

NO.. its not black hat or even greyhat..

      1. Find all his backlinks
      2. Sort them all into descending pagerank order, use software to do this or even seo-quake
      3. Fid the all those with page rank, ignore those that are unranked
      4. Go and make a post on everysingle one of those domains, with a link back to your site.

      5. Find some more blogs (use Comment Kahuna etc) and comment on them.

Its won't be long before you out rank him..

BUT.. make sure yo get all your blog comments indexed.
I would do this by :

      1. Pinging every blog post you make withy pingoat or pingomatic. I prefer Pingoat
      2. Use a service like (Backlinks2rss.com,, yes it is mine and its FREE) to take a list of all the URLs ythat you have blog comments on and make RSS feeds out of them.

Submit to Feedburner, and dozens of other RSS directories. I find RSS-Submit to be a very handy tool.

Do this and you will soon beat the other site.

      Hope this helps

      Its that easy

Since we don't know the site, we don't know the owner,
we don't know the history, we don't know shinola.

Why do people cargo on about how easy it is to beat based
        on nothing?

        Nobody knows the answer.

Oh yeah. We have no idea what kind of site you will build,
        your history, your expertise, nothing.

People fail and get frustrated because of pie-in-the-sky hopes
based on marshmallow clouds and backlink numbers.

This is a little misleading. What is there to suggest you too can a backlink from his sources? The sites providing the backlinks may be owned by him, may be from people who he has built up relationships with or sites that deem his site as quality. The only places where you can get backlinks is through paid links and blog commenting.

Lighten up guys.. Every seems to be jumping on the "doom & gloom" bandwagon!

Everyone has a chance to get any keyword they want to the #1 position in Google! Period!

All it takes is perserverance, ideas, courage time and lots of effort.. If you can only whinge and complain about why things can't be done, then you will never get to the #1 position.

He did say the site was a PR1, with most links coming from low PR sites.

So, it is fairly safe to assume its not a difficult keyword like "credit card" or "auto insurance"

Come one guys, give the OP some guidance on how to do it, not just complaints on why he can't..

Lets not turn this forum into a "whingers" hang-out.. Lets be constructive..

I am currently building the site because of the positive reactions and to show the negative people wrong! Thnx for the replies and I'll keep you guys posted on how i'm doing. I'm building a site with about 20 pages + blog and he has 1 page+ blog. I figured if I get more content with higher quality my chances will be higher. I might be over doing it a bit but then again it is my first site and im flat broke. Need this to work hehe.

Again thnx for the reply to everyone!
