Copied content - using nofollow to hide from Google?

Hi,

I am using copied content on my site together with a link from where I got it (a wiki site). I have many pages filled with this kind of content but always linking back to the original content.

All in all the copied content is only a small part of the rest of the page which is all unique content.

Should I use a nofollow on this content and remove it from the sitemap so Google de-index it or is there any other way to hide it from Google?
Or does Google not really care about this?

Google is the least of your concerns if you are using content without permission. Just because it is on the web doesn't mean that is permission enough.

  I would make sure your allowed to copy the content or at least contact the site and ask. If not, your just asking for problems.

Hmm. You would need to get permission. Also, Wikipedia is not a valid source of information as anyone can edit it (with an account). Thus making it even harder to get permissions to use an article from Wikipedia.

Just providing a link there is not going to help.

It is actually content that falls under the GNU Free Documentation License. (Everyone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim copies of this license document, but changing it is not allowed.)

So back to my question: how should I deal with Google so I won't get penalized?

  Use unique content. The link doesn't matter. Just because it is follow or no follow doesn't interrupt Google's ability to see where it goes.
  
  The only think nofollow does to a link is limits the "link juice" that is passed through it... and even that is debatable.

When I started out I was lazy and only used copied content however I quickly realised this should obviously not be done without the permission of the creator. However in an experiment using copied work I found sites that have copied content either take ages to index and work out the google rankings or don't index at all.

so what can I do to hide it from Google?
I can't delete it because the users really appreciate it.

  You can't hide it. Even a noindex page gets spidered.
  
  If your readers appreciate the content, then it doesn't really matter.

  It happens... a lot. Every news story is "copied" in this way.

What about using "disallow: /xxx/" in the robot.txt?
This way I could stop the crawler and the sites won't get indexed.
