Traffic generation and Page structure question

Hey all, I'd first like to thank everyone here. I've been quiet for a long time reading all the posts & formulating a plan for my first site. All of yalls discussions have invaluable to me! Thank you!

At the start of the year I took action: got a WSO from Matt Rhodes, got a domain name, site, set it all up & began adding new content about every 4 days. The site is Amazon affiliate/ad sense based & all content is created by me. I've gone from page 10+ to 3 since in nine weeks, but it appears I'm stuck there.

I have traffic coming in from Google that I can tell & no clicks on adsense or amazon. I'm not getting a whole lotta of traffic, but I realize that is due to the small niche and time is required. Roughly 4400 broad searches a month & 390 exact searches. I've began back linking and ping multiple sites for each new post.

I have 2 questions tho:
1) How can I drive more traffic? By submitting the posts to an article market? Do I just rewrite my posts since their all 300-500 words?
2) Does page structure changes affect page ranking?

#2 is asked because I made a recent change to the site that caused a big drop in page rank for me. I went from page 3 to 13 in a night. The only changes I made were to the structure. I went from /%categories%//%postname%/ to only /%postname%/. Seems silly a change like that would drop me, but I don't know for sure.

    Well, all you need to do is create some inbound links. But How? Article submissions, I mean your posted article will be submitted to other sites until it creates a circle of linking to each one.

      Should the articles be rewritten or spun in order to avoid appearing as duplicate content? From what you've outlined it sounds as though I would be creating a link wheel with the articles from the submission sites to my site. Is this correct?

    Adam,

    You might have dropped if you changed your permalinks after you already linked to your website. Once you create a page and link to that page, its best not to mess with the permalinks at all. It kind of renders those back links useless because they are now pointing to a page that doesnt exist.

    Site structure will have an impact on your pages ranking in the search engines. Bigger sites will be effected more so than smaller sites, but it does matter. I use a silo structure theme on my bigger websites and it helps me get traffic from very general search queries and specific queries.

    390 exact searches per month is not much. Add more pages and go after more keywords. Then just build back links steadily over time. There is plenty of information in this forum about how to build back links and promote your website. Be smart about though...

    It takes time to build traffic and make money online. Be patient yet persistent with your efforts. Do something every day for your website and you will see results eventually.

      Matt,

      I saw your post in a different thread and changed my structure to fit your description. After that is when I lost ranking and prompted my question. Thanks for letting me know that the change in structure affected all the backlinks I had made previously. It makes sense now as to why the page dropped so far.

      I've restore the previous site structure I had been using this morning. I'll leave it alone now I'll try the silo structure you described on a different site once I get to that point. Right now I'm focused on maintaining one and taking action with that one.

      I do agree that 390 searches isn't alot of searches per month, but I wanted to test the waters out and start in a small pond to see how well I could do. I do work on the site for about an hour a day doing something: backlinks, articles, research. From all the reading on here I did realize this was a long haul type route for IM. I'm ok with that because as you said I have to be persistent.

        If your site is new I would say pump out as much unique content as you can both on your site and on the big article/web 20 sites. Grab a handful of good links from related sites if you can. After your site has been around a bit, then start spinning.

    A good method I use is to find several forums that #1, have a high PR and #2 allow you to use a signature. then, become active in the forums and you will have targeted traffic visiting your site with a better conversion, also you benefit from quality backlinks. - Just my 2 cents...

    friends i also want to join the grate discusion it is very helpfull posts. i think page structure will not change page rank but contant and title and keyword can change site position on search engen. i have blog and generating trafic from google .in bigning there was trafic but no clicks it was realy very disappointed but when i chagne my contant and add position there was a grate change . not i have clicks and trafic. if u want to visit then you can c it below of my post. thanks for reed me. have a good day best of luck
