Syndicated Content good for SEO?

I was intrigued by the "autoblogging" threads here and found a plug-in called FeedWordpress that allows you to syndicate content for other sites. For example, I set it up to feed syndicated content from about.com's organic gardening blog. I've still got to work out the kinks so it shows up with decent tags and categories. I've set it to post to my site (which puts a snippet from the beginning and a "read more" that takes the reader to About.com's site.

Does this positively affect my SEO in that I'll have keyword appropriate article snippets added to my site? Does the feed site's PR matter? Should I (and how would I) make the "read more" link target a new page rather than taking readers away from my site? I can't write as many articles as I'd like and this would give my readers something from a reputable site (I'd add others as I find them) that are pertinent to the farm site's topic of organic gardening.

Thoughts?

I'm also noticing that the syndicated content does not display adsense ads. Is this normal? How can I make them display ads?
