Link building without writing content

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about how to link build and improve rankings without being able to write content. A client of mine sells a product that is very difficult to write content about because it is such an everyday item.

So maintaining and blog, guest blogging and article marketing are out of the question unless I write crap content for the sake of it.

I am a member on their behalf of a few industry and product related forums so mention their products there with links but other than that I am stumped for how to build effective, quality links to improve their search listings.

Any ideas?

Thanks

The more content with links, usually the "higher" quality they are. If they are everyday items, surely you can write some howto's that incorporate the item, or tips and tricks on how to do things that involve the item itself.

Not really I'm afraid. Not good quality stuff anyway. Imagine the company was selling picture frames for example. There's only so many 'How to use a picture frame effectively in your home' articles you can write.

This might of been a bad example, on the weekend, i went down the mall with my wife and daughter, and purchased a couple of picture frames, and went into an art shop and get decorations for it. I'm quite sure i could write quite a few articles based around "how to dedicate your photo frame to highlight your picture" articles, or how to dedicate a photo frame for a XXXX style photo. (XXX could be any type of photograph shot you can think of - headshot, family shot, party shot etc).

I totally understand how hard it can be, Sometimes i do copy writing for real estate agents, there's only so many ways you can you describe a room =)

      Not really ...

As Andy says above, it needs a little bit of lateral thinking. There are actually loads of things that haven't been said about picture-framing in online articles for marketing purposes. And the same's true of any other everyday household object, I think.

This bookThis book , in particular, will be an inspiration to you, I think, in this context (more than his "Lateral Thinking" books in themselves). I wouldn't buy it through Amazon, though, at those prices: it's the kind of thing you should be able to pick up somewhere for $1. It really is worth reading: you'll never have the "can't think of more things to write about this everyday object" problem again.

      Hi LauraJ,

According to Google there are about 3.29 million web documents that contain the phrase "picture frame" within the document title. Somehow folks are able to come up with a sizable collection of web pages on that topic.

I think you are only limited by your belief. If you believe you can create more content then you will. I know I could come up with hundreds of different angles on the most mundane objects if I wanted to. The problem is that I would get too bored to continue and I bet that's what is holding you up as well.

A good idea is to hire a professional writer who gets paid by the word. You may be amazed with the variety of interesting articles a really good writer can conceive when being paid well.

This brings up a good point, turn your existing articles into videos, and submit them to major Video sites. Once you have done that, you can also strip the audio and turn them into podcasts. On top of that you can turn them into documents and submit them to document sharing sites as well.

If it is picture frame, then you can write at least 100 original articles on them. It sounds only 'picture frame'; but thats an entire industry. Trust me.

Except you get relevant content for whatever it is you are twxing to link to you would most probably be fighting a lost cause. No offences.

    Hi Laura,

It sounds like you're overcomplicating things.

It probably just requires a little lateral thinking.

If you're just looking for links then the sky is the limit for what you can write about.

There will be hundreds of related words/phrases that add context to what you can write about.

Even if you just take some common terms like:

    Top 5 problems with....
    Top 5 tips for choosing....
    How to select a .....
    Where to find/buy a ....
    How to sell a .....
    10 different ways to use a .....

    You get the idea.

So if you took your picture frames example and just think about who buys them and why - there will be hundreds of variations - and that's just for article content.

The same goes for video, blogging etc.

Then there are press releases - there are ALWAYS things you can say in general about the industry ("the decline of the picture frame industry due to digital photography", "the rise of the picture framing industry now that anyone can create a picture to be framed" etc...)

Then there's document, image, slide, software, video sharing sites.

There really is no limit apart from your imagination.

And that's just if you're looking at relevant content.

This is a useful thread for me as I'm link building for a company who sell chalkboards!

I'd take link building for picture frames any day of the week. AndyHenry has given some great tips for mixing things up. I've tried top 5 tips for choosing a chalkboard...all I say is I was stretching things by tip 5.

If anyone has ideas for content for writing on chalkboards I'd love to hear them!

    Hi Laura ~

Your question is almost exactly the same as what I asked a couple of days ago in this thread...

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...like-mine.html

Specifically read the response from "tpw"

I'm implementing his method now, starting with a survey. My product is bookmarks, and not the Internet kind. So how everyday is a bookmark, right? About as useful to some people as a photo frame I suppose, depending on who those people are.

You've gotten some other great ideas too - videos showing different ways to decorate that picture frame. How to use a picture frame to frame a quilt or a crocheted piece. Just because it's a "picture frame" doesn't mean it has to be used just for pictures.

Go over to my site and see the different articles I've written around the ideas of what bookmarks can be used for and maybe you'll get some ideas.

    Good luck!!

The suggestions are very useful but many people forgot about her precondition that it is hard to add a lot of content on her own.

I think video is good but sometimes niche means few people or own personal wb mastering, and some product is costing to transfer the articles into videos . e.g. Traveling.

I think we can only do some blogging and bookmarking as we also need time to update small part of the content and do some blogging and linking changing.
