Punctuation within a keyword phrase - effect on SEO?

Hi guys,

I found an EMD for a keyword phrase that has a weird pluralization and is tricky to write naturally in copy - something similar to "astronauts toys," for example. It would be a lot easier to include it in copy if it was split over two sentences - "Kids love astronauts. Toys related to space blah blah blah..." Would this have negative impact on SEO?

Same question about adding apostrophes to indicate pluralization. If I decided to spin this to write about toys belonging to an astronaut or group of astronauts, would including the apostrophe - astronaut's toys or astronauts' toys - have any negative effect?

most search engines ignore special characters. so i guess if it'll have an effect, it'll be very very little.

  I have a site called "Shooters' Journal", which of course has an apostrophe in it. I've found it difficult to rank for my site's name. Last I checked, I was only at #3. While I've not spent time on it specifically, I link it from a lot of my profiles, and I'm sure it's well optimized.

  As a result, I think punctuation does have some negative impact on SEO efforts - but they still work.
