Profile Links are they worthwhile for SEO?

I see many people selling their so called profile links service, probably they have some software to automatically create hundreds of profiles in forums and other sites, with a link to the site that uses their service.

by looking on how forums work those member profiles only have small chance of getting indexed by SE when they login the 1st time(as a link to each logged in member appear in bottom of forums) so they will get de-indexed soon by SE.

my question is do they work for you? do they appear as backlinks?

Profile links are mostly worthless to me. They may help a little bit, but I would rather take time in using methods that generate traffic while increasing my rank.

I think they have very little effect on search engine ranking. I have created many links and most of them are not indexed. I do not get any benefit from them.

Likewise.. created many profile links and hardly any are indexed.. Seems like wasted effort.. I have even been using back link energizer and still my profile links are not indexed.. So for me I will try other methods.

profile backlinks plays great role in linkbuilding, but you need to mix methods, they are not a gold recepie for all seo problems!

i am just wondering too.. as profile links will not be permanent as non active profiles will be deleted by the forum mods.. is that correct?

Profile backlinks work extremely well, especially if they are dofollow & originate from a parent domain that has a high PR (5 or above). Hope this helps!

Profile backlinks work very well for me. High pr do follow profile links are the best for your site, don't build too many profile links quickly.

I do SEO service for my client and see this method works. But you need to create profile wisely and make them index by pinging, submit to RSS, and bookmark the RSS. This will take time.

  • fro example, let assume you have 20 friends who are have a website. they aim to earn money from traffic by adsense and affiliate marketing. if those 20 friends have profile links in same forum and luckily they have signature option, they will at least they gonna have around 1000 visitors per day. and among them if 10-20 people buy something from affiliate marketing, then they surely have some lead. if they keep posting 50 high traffic forums then you now calculate how much it gonna help them?

I don't bother with forums with less then PR2 on their main page.
Not too many links in a short time. As per my experience, only few get indexed from a big bunch...but they appear from time to time and helping in a long run...
Off course, this is only an add-on to your other marketing strategies

I use them sometimes and they have benefits, but are not considered high quality backlinks, so you do need a lot of them (and with new sites blasting out lots of links can get your site sandboxed, if you believe in that! ) to have much effect.

It's also hard to get them indexed naturally.

They can form part of a backlinking strategy, but I have never used them alone when trying to get a site ranked for a competitive term. I find the best kind of backlinks are links with my chosen anchor text within the text of a relevant article posted on an established article site (e.g. GoArticles, Article Base) or blog. Then sometimes it helps to build many lower quality links (profiles, bookmarks, blog comments) to this page to get it indexed.

If you're going to use profile links then I you have to use profile link pyramids. This way the search engine only counts high PR domain profile links but you still get the link juice and indexing power of lower PR down profile links pointing to the high PR links.

It works, but not as well as directory submissions, press releases, or article submissions. I know of a few article directories with automatic acceptance and are do follow. That works really well for increasing my rankings.

They were effective before the latest updates. Now Google find a in-content backlink more effective than a regular site-wide backlink. So only your keyword is worthless for your website. If you can have a 500 article for example and link back to your website could be worth more than 100 profile backlinks
