I have read that over a 1000 backlinks can be more harm than good is this true

    You can purchase links from other site - or opt for any service which provides backlinks - place comments on blogs.

    Backlinks are indeed important to rate your website on Google.

      There are many places you can get links:

      Relevant blogs
      Other sites in your niche
      directories relevant to your niche
      squidoo
      hub pages
      forums
      other sites you own

      Dig around here on WF and you'll find sone info on them.

      I would keep them all relevant and it will help you to learn about "anchor text" (do a search for it).

      John S. Rhodes has an incredibly inexpensive WSO called "Iron Fist Backlinks" - search for it here in the forum and check it out - it will help you immensely.

      Personally, I wold recommend that you learn how to do backlinks yourself before hiring someone, then you will know what it is that you need. I try not to ever outsource anything until after I have first learned it myself.

    Oh and none of the replies mentioned the fact that the higher the google page rank of the sites that link to you, the more 'juice' they carry to propel you upwards.
    i.e. if important sites link to you, that makes you important.
