Questions about website content and Google's "rules"

I come across large sites sometimes that rank well in Google and have many subpages with extremely similar topics/keywords. They might even have Adsense on them. For example, if a site is about automobile tires, one subpage might be "repair a flat tire" and another will be "flat tire repair" and yet another will be "how to fix a flat". The content is written quite differently for those 3 pages, and therefore unique, but it logically is the same darn thing.

I understand that different keywords are targeted and that's why there are 3 different pages. My question is whether one of those famous Google "audits" would cause a site like that to get deindexed, or if having very similar topics all across one site is ok as long as the content is good. Please note: not all the subpages are like that, maybe half.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

if contents are unique and valued to user then it is ok. You can target pages for keywords.

Why do you say "it is logically the same darn thing"? If a person is at all creative, you can do those three keyword phrases with very little overlap.

How to Temporarily Repair a Tire with Fix-A-Flat
The Typical Costs of Flat Tire Repair Services
Should You Know How to Fix a Flat?

Can you see how all those similar keywords would easily have very different concepts on each page?

That may be so with tires, but I have seen for some topics in other niches where there is really NOTHING to add to a topic/keyword, and these guys go and make pages after pages just to capture different variations of those long tail keywords, talking about a VERY narrow subject, essentially the same darn thing.

To the search engine, it is not obvious, but to any surfer with half a brain, it is glaringly obvious that this is totally redundant. And to anyone with any amount of SEO knowledge, it is very obvious this is just.....greyhat. You could call it spammy for sure.

And my big question would be this: can this site get a Google de-indexing due to this, or would it get their Adsense account banned on some little known TOS violation? Anybody know?

I "don't" think they would get a big penalty (or any kind of penalty) for it, but cmon, these folks are not making themselves look smart here, to their...... human visitors (at least those with half a brain).

Good points. I just thought that concept might seem "spammy" - so I had to ask.
