Links from web directories and article directories probably still carry a decent amount of weight as there is some regulation/review process there.

  i completely agree with him. post your comments in high page rank do follow sites. if your backlinkings are with high page rank site, then i am sure you will get a good amount of traffic too.

  Getting contextual links from good resources work great! Try to get backlinks from article directories, squidoo lens, weebly and also by doing guest blogging. Forum posting is another good way. Actually it's always better to get backlinks from several sources.

If you have an SEO program, you can search for all types of blogs, directories, etc in your niche.

There is no need to label one "the best." They are all vital and important in your battle to rank highly in the search engines.

So use a combination of these, use anchor text with your keyword a decent % of the time, and let the rankings work themselves out.

Submit articles on some high PR articles sites, link exchange with theme based PR sites, forum links at some standard forums, build links from squidoo, Google knol etc.

Creating good backlinks is quite a hard task. But if you want to get this kinds of links, I suggest you to do all link building methods. But give more priority to forum posting and blog commenting. These two are good in getting good quality backlinks.

  2) High-quality, high-relevancy (these are harder, but provide the super-punch)

Try to find some method with manual first and if you see it work, you can use tool for do that. I prefer the manual because it do not make mass of backlinks and make Search Engine see your site is spam site.

Link exchange has always been a favorite way to get website backlinks.There are sites specifically built for link exchange, but don’t go for them. Instead, look for other websites that have content that is similar to yours and exchange links with them.

im really new to all this backlinks stuff and all that so i have a question. lets say i reach 1000 posts on here over time with my link in my sig, does that get me 1000 legit backlinks? cause ive been using woorank.com to check my backlinks and im at 106 and even when i post or do something to get a backlink its still at 106?

There are 1000 ways to get good back links. What I recommend starting with is to find your top competitor, export their backlinks in Yahoo site explorer and then try and see if you can get their top PR backlinks yourself as well.

part of the problem is my top competitor has 81k backlinks. in my opinion my site setup and all is better as theirs is very sloppy but they beat me in members/content/backlinks/PR
