Content creation: Is this my job?

It seems that such a big part of SEO is based around the creation of keyword-rich content.

I'm new in SEO and SEM and I can only act as a guide and an analyst for picking apart problems but it seems that a huge factor in SEO is the creation of well-thought content.

Is it just me or do services like PayPerPost seem like a joke? Why are we spamming the internet with mediocre content just to get ahead in the rankings? If everyone is submitting to the same directories and everyone is having other people write for them where does the real quality lie?

Depends on what you're selling, right? Well in my case, it's small business B2C services. My client has 20 years experience in her field and I'm not about to go tell her that we should hire someone to write in our name.

I guess I'm confused at where to go with social media and content creation because my client doesn't have time for it...and I am not qualified for it...

Creating a lot of quality content is a fool proof way to approach SEO in my experience.

The more you write content/ make videos/etc, the more you get recognized as the authority on a subject, the more people share your content, the more back links you get, the more visitors, the better rankings, and so on...

If you can create good content, then do it. If not, then hire someone to create it for you.

SEO pros must all be professional writers in that case...

For someone starting out as an entry level SEO consultant, and with a limited budget, what would you suggest I tell my busy client? If I tell her to hire someone, then it looks like my job is done.

Even if I were to submit to my client an article, she would most likely dismiss it because she is a licensed professional so she knows the industry way better than I do.

Do you guys all write content for your clients?

One of the things I tend to do with licensed professionals (eg lawyers, dentists, etc) is see how comfortable they are with dictation or chatting on Skype/phone.

Each week/month I send them a list of topic ideas (eg top 10 tips for keeping your shirt in a divorce). Two days later I give them a call and just have them fire off verbally their tips. I record each session and then type up articles/ebooks from what they've said and just tidy it up a bit so that it flows smoothly

I have found that most of my busier clients prefer this approach - essentially they are providing the content and I am just changing it from verbal to written

Wow, that is refreshing. I don't think I've read an approach like that yet so thank you!

      No problem

If you go with the Skype approach you can grab a program called Pamela that allows you to record the Skype call.

Communicating with the client via phone/Skype is a huge selling point for busy professionals

  • it is not all the guys who are spamming. there are some guys who have original top class contents. if you think you are one of them then you can surely produce contents like web gurus.

spamming do not create automatically. we create it. so as we can create it, we can also avoid it.
