Setting up a link wheel with pretty links

Hi guys,
some time ago I read someone recommending setting up a link wheel with pretty links (which are redirects).

I have loads of articles on loads of article sites, which of course all link to my site. So the idea is to link various articles together via these pretty links.

First question: does that make sense - would it bring something for my SEO?

Second question: Does google have a problem with that? Would that count as unusual backlink data that sets up some red flags with the search engine?

Third question: is this in any form illegal/wrong/forbidden/sneaky - you name it?

Thanks for the input.

No just keep adding articles on article directories.
You will start getting traffic slowly and you will be in the race soon.

People say link wheel is the same as exchange links? True? If yes then it's a bad idea then? Google will probably notice this soon.

Well, why do you say 'no' I should not do it? What are your reasons?

It is not the same as exchanging links. A link wheel is used with web. 2.0 sites such as blogger, squiddo, etc. You creat accounts on those sites with articles and anchor text in content pointing back to your site. These are called your buffer sites...
Link wheels is a littler older process, now they call it link pushing or link pyramids. Build links to those web 2.0 sites and the juice will pass on to your money site.

This technique is used mostly with black hat and automated programs. Hope this helps

I would not exchange links but link different pages together with no reciprocal links.

I don't have any 2.0 page and no time or energy to set some up. I was wondering if one can do with the article pages as they are already there.

My main concern is whether this is somehow sneaky/wrong/black hat. My website has been sunk before and I do not want to risk that again.

Why would you want to do that? It would not help you

I read here that linking the articles would work like a linkwheel. But obviously, I don't know whether this is true and whether this would have any good effect and is worth the effort.

      That's why I am asking.

No it wouldnt work. There are more important things to worry about then a link wheel of articles

In addition, you should place your keyword with anchor text in the part of your content which can easily be seen by your viewers. You don't have to include the so called "black hat" technique in setting up a link wheel. You just have to optimize your blogs properly.

    So linkwheels are considered black-hat?

Also, why does a linkwheel work with 2.0 websites but not with articles? I mean links are links - right?

Linkwheel is white hat technique and it will improve your ranking as well as traffic but you have to post different article on different websites.

I have 200 articles on 10 different article sites and I was planning to chaotically link them together (via redirects- pretty links), put the keywords into to the anchor text and obviously have links from all of them pointing to my site.

The idea is that the linking together of the articles would add more umph to the links from the article site, which on their own do not count so much.

I don't think it would work that much more effectively if you link them chaotically than if you were to have one direction in your wheel. Google crawlers might get pissed off with the chaotic mesh you build. Haha

    Just my two cents. =)

Well, I don't know much about SEO but I know so much that you should always aim for the 'natural look'. And natural is chaotic.

If google has got algorithms that can spot perfect link wheels and count that against you you are in for trouble.

You've got a good point there as well. Hmm .. maybe I should rethink my wheel mesh strategy. Haha

You just said you dont know much about Seo then again you are saying you do know to look Natural. Really kind of funny if you ask me. Google can't spot your link wheel if you know how to design it so, but then again you don't know anything aboiut SEO. That is why you are here
