Several times my hosting admin sent my bandwidth excess and will have me to upgrade or do something because my old website is having too much traffic. So I log in my WP admin and damn, 500+ comments of all kind (adult, affiliate....) spam comments. I had to delete all and took me like 5minutes.
Last time I logged in I did delete comment line in WP code but guess what, when you upgrade WP, they insert that comment tag line again, and I wasn't aware of it so comment spam flood like shi**
So I have to delete that code too and modify in WP admin "discussion."
So I'm not sure I will use these comment blog services again because I've been the one who got "sucks."

You're lucky it only took 5 minutes.

      Just turn off comments. Simple.

If you need to have comment on your blog then use either Akismet or a captcha plugin for your comments.

Activating Akismet is the best that you can do to control comments on your blog.

Adding captcha code prevents lot of spam.
I use captcha code for my blogs to avoid all type of spam comments.

I am wondering why the akismet plug in is not activated in your wp admin it is now a built in plugin for every seo theme.

Or, if you still want legit comments to get through, instead of enabling Akismet (because it eliminates legit comments too), just enable re-captcha.
