Article Distibution - Good SEO or Duplicate Content?

Distributing one article to different reputable article directories such as Ezine, Go Articles, etc. Is this considered to be a step to gain exposure or a step towards Google penalty for submitting duplicate content?

Is this a good source to get quality back links from different directories? What other sources of quality back links can you share?

Not good SEO, and not duplicate content either.

    Beautifully answered here.

The terms "quality backlinks" and "article directories" are mutually exclusive.

All article directory backlinks are non-context-relevant, PR-0 (or "PR-not-available") backlinks. That's just about the lowest of the low, in link-juice terms. 100,000 of those backlinks and $3.50 will get you a cappuccino at Starbucks.

This is a question for the "SEO forum", really: there are few hundred threads there with answers, Dmitry - have a good read around.

I have to mostly agree with above poster.....

They are not duplicate content..On your site same content twice is duplicate content. On other sites its called Syndication.

If you only focus on article marketing the links will decrease in value until you are getting little to no benefit. You want to mix your links up from many different sources.

You are looking for in content relevant links from authority sites.

It is not going to get you into trouble for duplicate content. Just make sure you get it indexed on your site first so it will rank above the other copies (in most cases).

As far as SEO, it does help a little. It is an easy way to get some backlinks but these are not exactly powerful backlinks. In my experience, it does make a difference however. My pages that I backlinked using article distribution and keyword targeted anchor text are easily out-performing my pages that acquired only natural backlinks. Again, if you really want to focus on strong backlinking strats, there are many resources out there that will show you more powerful methods.

I personally like to focus my time on content for my sites rather than backlinking which is why I do the fast easy stuff like article marketing. I use AMR to blast out 100s of articles at a time for links. Works pretty good so far so I'll keep doing it for now.

To say of what is that it is not, or of what is not that it is, is false, while to say of what is that it is, and of what is not that it is not, is true.

If the article you are going to submit is the same to those that are in your content in your site, then that is definitely a duplicate content!

Hmm...I never really noticed that much benefit from article syndication. Drip feeding via spinner articles always seemed like the way to go. I know that press releases certainly get sprayed left and right in the SERPs, so I suppose the most important factor is just to keep the duplicate content off your site as mentioned before.
