Is there an optimal % of direct traffic?

Was wondering what percentage of the traffic you all receive is direct.

I'm getting lots of pageviews from my incoming sources, but my direct incoming traffic isn't as strong as I would expect it to be. I understand it has to ramp up, but I just think it should be doing so a little bit faster.

Where does direct traffic come from? I've always wondered that.

Is it traffic from people typing in your url in browser bar?

Yeah, that sums up direct traffic!

      To the OP:

I think there are many factors that will influence the amount of direct traffic you receive and one can't really specify an optimal percentage. Your content will affect that stat - is the quality such that people will want to return to your site? The type of site you run will also have an influence - is it interactive like a blog or social platform or is it an informational site? And I am sure there are many other factors to take into account.

What really matters is your bottom-line - Are you converting the visitors you receive?

Interesting question. I'd say the optimal % of direct traffic
        would be 100%.

I will never get there, but I am shooting for it anyway, and taking
google completely out of my business model. But that's the way
        I have always done.

The "problem" is that the more direct traffic you get, the more
linkbait that follows, improving your web footprint, improving
your rankings, and raising the % of non-direct traffic!

Funny. That's exactly how google tells you to do it...

There are people who really should concentrate more on this model.
