I hear some people are talking about backlink age. So a backlink from newly created stumbleupon.com has less effect then a backlink from 1 year old Stumbleupon.com account?

Thanks for replies.......
#age #big #factor #link

Yes, this is correct. Backlink age does count, I've often though that google doesn't fully weight links for several weeks after it's first crawled them, this way spammy sites can't rise to #1 overnight for link spam across legit sites that takes several days to be removed, I'm only talking certain keywords here, the obvious one's that spammers use.

There's no point in doing backlinking that isn't going to stick, it's critical element of any link I build, will it stick? You don't want negative link velocity. Forum profile blasts are the best way to cause a site dancing in google, because the links are crap and don't stick.

Yes link age is also a factor. Although there is a SECRET strategy which can be applied on new links to get them higher rankings safely. Even Google will love them seriously.

The questions you asked, and the answers you have received are two separate things.

Google will not put more weight on a backlink from a StumbleUpon account that is 1 year old. Google doesn't create algorithms to put weight on accounts that are older on separate websites.

To answer your subjects question, YES, link age does matter. The longer your backlinks stay in place, the better they are for your backlink portfolio. The more trust and linkjuice that is passed on.

Since spammers usually hit blogs, forums and other sites HARD, they eventually get shutdown, closed, posts deleted or cleaned up, etc. These links disappear, but links that stick from domains that are growing over time can be very very valuable.

If the question is on link value from stumbleupon, then it's a moot point.

      You need to rethink stumbleupon.

Backlink age counts for more than the mythical domain age.

But in this case a one year old link is worth the same as a new one.

      Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

Traffic wise, who knows. But that's not related to link age, or
      SEO link value, right?

There's no big secret to getting good links with good value immediately.
Maybe it is. People seem to be so hell-bent on worthless links and
wonder why they are not improving. Well, start getting high PR, high
authority links. That's no secret. Just information ignored.

Case in point. Stumbleupon. Stop worrying about stumbleupon and get
some real valuable links. Is that a secret?

also note that on topic back links count. For example in three months I have outranked a site that has links for the past 7 years. The reason I could do this was because the other sites links were not keyword rich

Just out of curiosity, how does one acquire backlinks from stumble? In the stumbler profile?

I haven't really used stumble all that much.

There are so many factors more important than link age. It's an extremely inconsequential consideration in SEOing a website - don't get me wrong, junk backlinks are not worth your time.

In fact, many work far too hard on crappy link building techniques when pretty much the same amount of work will yield terrific backlinks.

      Hope that helps!

Age plays a big role in how search engines see a page, especially Google. There are so many fly-by-night sites out there that comes today and tomorrow have been that Google does not waste much time indexing sites that can never become something substantial.
